Veena Tutorials Algebra Chapter 7 Probability Exercise 7.

.1 In each of the following experiments write the sample space S, number of sample points n(S), events A, B, C and n(A), n(B), n(C). Also mention the complementary events, mutually exclusive events if they exist. 1. A coin is tossed thrice. A is the event of getting at least two heads. B is the event of getting no head. C is the event of getting tail in the second toss. 2. Two dice are thrown. A is the event that the sum of the scores on the uppermost faces is a multiple of 4. B is the event that the sum of scores on the uppermost faces is 20. C is the event that the score on the second die is greater than the score on the first die. 3. From a set of 17 balls marked 1, 2, 3, 16, 17, one ball is drawn at random. A is the event that its number is divisible by 3. B is the event that its number is an even number greater than 9. C is the event that its number is a prime number. 4. There are 3 men and 3 women. A committee of 2 is to be formed. A is the event that there should be at least one women in the committee. B is the event that there should be one man and one woman in the committee. C is the event that there is no woman in the committee. 5. A coin is tossed and a die is thrown simultaneously. A is the event of getting a head and an odd number. B is the event of getting higher H or T and an even number. C is the event of getting a number on a die greater than 7 and a tail. 6. Form two digit numbers using the digits 0, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 without repeating the digits. A is the event that the number is even. B is the event that the number is divisible by 3. C is the event that the number is greater than 50.

Exercise 7.2 1. A coin is tossed. Find the probability that neither Head nor Tail turns up. 2. Two coins are tossed. Find the probability that: (i) at least one head turns up. (ii) no head turns up. 3. A coin is tossed three times. Find the probability that (i) exactly one tail turns up (ii) a least two tails turns up (iii) no tail turns up 4. A die is thrown. Find the probability that (i) An odd number comes up (ii) A perfect square comes up (iii) A multiple of 7 comes up. 5. Two dice are thrown. Find the probability that (i) The sum of the numbers on the dice is at least 11 (ii) The sum of the numbers on the dice is divisible by 9. (iii) The number on the upper face of first die is greater than the number on the upper race of second die. (iv) The sum of the numbers on their upper faces is a perfect square. 6. There are 15 tickets bearing the numbers from one to fifteen in a bag and one ticket is drawn at random from the bag. Find the probability of the event that the ticket drawn (i) bears even number. (ii) bears a number which is multiple of 5. 7. What is the probability of two digit odd number formed from the digits 2, 3, 5, 7, 9 if repetition of digits is not allowed. Also find the probability of the event that the two digit number is multiple of five.

Problem set 7 1. In each of the following experiments write down the sample space S, number of sample points n (S), events A. B, C and n (A), n (B), n (C). (i) A coin is tossed. A is the event of getting head, B is the event of getting head and tail. C is the event of getting tail. (ii) Two coins are tossed. A is the event of getting at the most one head. B is the event of getting both heads. C is the event of getting the same face on both the coins. (iii) A coin is tossed thrice. A is the event that head appears once. B is the event that head appears at the most choice. C is the event that head does not appear. A die is thrown. A is the event that the prime number comes up. B is the event that the number divisible by three comes up. C is the event that the perfect square number comes up. Two dice are thrown. A is the event that the sum of the numbers on their upper face is at least eleven. B is the event that the sum of the numbers on their upper faces is divisible by 7. C is the event that the same number on the upper faces of both dice. A ball is picked up at random from a box containing three red balls, three white balls and three green balls. A is the event that the ball picked up is a red ball. B is the event that the balls picked up is not a green ball. C is the event that the ball picked up is either white or green ball.

2. Two coins are tossed, find the probability of the events (i) Tail appears on both the coins. (ii) Tail does not appear. 3. A coin is tossed thrice. Find the probability of the events. (i) head appears twice. (ii) head appears at the most twice.

4. A die is thrown. Find the probability of the event that (i) the number divisible by three comes up (ii) the score on the upper face is greater than two. 5. Two dice are thrown. Find the probability of the events. (i) The product of the numbers on their upper faces is twelve. (ii) The numbers on their upper faces is same. (iii) The sum of the numbers on their upper faces is multiple of 5. 6. There are 40 tickets numbered 1 to 40 in a box. A ticket is drawn. What is the probability that the ticket drawn (i) bears an odd number. (ii) bears a number which is a perfect square. 7. Find the probability that a leap year selected at random will have 53 Sundays. 8. Three boys A, B and C are in a race. A is twice as likely to win as B and B is twice as likely to win as C and P(A) + P(B) + P(C) = 1. What are the respective probabilities of winning?
