Northern Route

7 Days Bird Watching in Peninsular Malaysia (March September) This new itinerary is suitable for bird watchers and photographers who look forward for an exciting birding experience in Peninsular Malaysia. We have spent a lot of time and effort to explore these locations for years before introducing it to visiting bird watchers and photographers. Day 1: Kuala Lumpur - Ipoh We will meet everyone at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). From the airport, we will make our way to Ipoh. Enroute to destination, we will be making birding stops at nearby wetlands targeting at Purple Heron, Grey Heron, Little Heron, Great Egret, Little Egret, Cattle Egret, Black-crowned Night Heron and many more. Overnight in Ipoh. Day 2: Ipoh - Taiping Along the way to Taiping in the morning, we will be making a stop for birding in a lowland forest. Here we will be looking for Black-capped Babbler, Rufouscollared Kingfisher and Malayan Honeyguide. Overnight in Taiping. Day 3: Taiping Today, we will be birding in 2 mangrove sites with targets such as Milky Stork, Lesser Adjutant Stork, Brahminy Kite, Black-shouldered Kite, Stork-billed Kingfisher, Laced Woodpecker, Common Goldenback, Southern Great Tit, Velvet-fronted Nuthatch and also Ruddy Kingfisher. Another possible species for highlight is the Mangrove Pitta. Overnight in Taiping.

Day 4 & 5: Taiping We will be spending two nights in Maxwell Hill, a exBritish colonial hill station which offers sub-montane bird species. It is a great chance to search for Spectacled Laughingthrush, Rufous-browed Flycatcher, Little Pied Flycatcher, Hill Blue Flycatcher, Golden Babbler, Grey-throated Babbler, Streaked Spiderhunter, Black-throated Sunbird, Black-crested Bulbul, Mountain Bulbul, Black-browed Barbet, Grey-chinned Minivet, Silver-breasted Broadbill, Fire-breasted Flowerpecker, Mountain Imperial Pigeon and Black Eagle. Overnight in Maxwell Hill. Day 6: Taiping We will be covering two habitats today a garden with man-made lake and a plantation-catchment area. Our target species for the day includes Oriental Pied Hornbill, Rhinoceros Hornbill, Orange-headed Thrush, Malayan Honeyguide, Grey-capped Woodpecker, Greyand-Buff Woodpecker, Banded Woodpecker, Bluecrowned Hanging Parrot, Puff-throated Babbler, Rufescent Prinia, Green-billed Malkoha, Raffless Malkoha, Chestnut-bellied Malkoha, Chestnut-breasted Malkoha, Black-thighed Falconet, White-bellied Sea Eagle, Long-tailed Parakeet, Blue-eared Kingfisher and Stork-billed Kingfisher. Overnight in Taiping. Day 7: Taiping Kuala Lumpur In the morning, we will be birding at the Batu Gajah exmining area for species such as Chesnut-winged Cuckoo, Cotton Pygmy Geese, Lesser Whistling Duck, Temmincks Stint and Chestnut-headed Bee-eater. Next, we will be birding at a limestone cave environment before heading to Taiping. Here we will be looking for Blue Rock Thrush, Blue Whistling Thrush, Java Sparrow, Temmincks Sunbird and Banded Bay Cuckoo. Transfer to Kuala Lumpur / KLIA. Expect to arrive at night after dinner. Please provide your flight departure details upon your arrival on Day 1. End of tour.
