Sangre Ridge PTA Board Meeting - Summary Tuesday, March 11, 2014 1. Principals Report a.

Staffing Changes Many companies still hiring (oil field, pipeline, Asco, Total Energy), we will continue to grow, but funding is lower than it was in 2008. The class size maximums will still be in place PreK= 20, K2 = 24 and 3-5 = 27 kids/class Lots of cuts will be coming to all sites and all categories. District has over 1.5 million shortfall. This is a statewide problem. b. 2015-2016: Some benefits to moving 5th/6th together: It will be treated as an upper elementary with elem. type principal and many current 5th grade teachers will move up. Current Middle school principal will move to jr. high. 5th/6th closer in personality than 6th/7th, and with 7th participating in more sports now, they will have access to all the fields/lockers/showers at the junior high that they dont have at the middle school. Now many 9th graders are getting bused to the high school for classes, Ag, band, orchestra, sports, it that will solve that issue. c. Grade/Class Restructuring: Sangre will have more room and will only test in 2 grades instead of 3 (much easier) and a few rooms in the preK wing will now house the Early Childhood center (3-4 yr olds) that was by Richmond. We will need to make modifications to the drop off/bus lane and possible overhang for handicap drop off. d. 1 PreK class (Mrs. Zacher), will be piloting a program and meet next year at Golden Oaks retirement center. This is going on throughout the nation and is wildly successful. They will interact with the residents and we will bus older kids over for reading buddies/etc. Guthrie has a similar program and has 150kids on the waiting list to be in that class. Very Exciting Opportunity! There was a documentary on news 9, if anyone wants to watch it. e. PreK enrollment will be at each school this spring. You will be given a ticket and turn in your stuff to the school or board building after you fill it out at home. Should be MUCH easier and no waiting in line! f. Drop off/pick up We have a teacher committee looking at options for next year. If you have any ideas, please email Kristi Riley - kmr118@hotmail.com, and she will forward them to Mr. Blake. Several considerations are: Cut out another exit, so you can have traffic flowing both directions (coming from North or South), Make Right Turn Only signs out of both parking lots during pick up/drop off times, color coded cards for pickup 2. Presidents Report a. Snow Days do not have to make up any days/time, we still have the required hours of instruction. b. SMAC Childrens carnival at SHS on April 3 will see a sign up genius soon to donate bottles, time, etc. for the Sangre booth. 3. Committee Reports a. Book Fair AWESOME!! Not sure of total, but we made over $3000 just on family night! All the proceeds go to our library to buy materials and books! b. Outdoor Day May 16th working with a teacher committee, so hopefully, this will continue to be self sustaining part of the calendar. More to come c. Science Night Tuesday, April 1 Its no joke 6-8 pm. In the gym. All students, parents and siblings welcome!! Free night of hands-on experiments and learning about science. i. Still looking for a few volunteers to help at stations. Please email Andrea if you know of anyone that would like to help - jawilson3@sbcglobal.net. ii. Assembly for PreK-3rd grade at 1 p.m. on the 1st with a scientist doing experiments.

iii. 4th grade will do the Science Matters mobile museum on the 1st, 5th grade will go on the 2nd iv. Stations that night include 4 areas of science: Psychology (optical illusions, smells, touch), Physics (weighing air, magnet races), Chemistry (cleaning pennies, invisible ink), Biology (germs, microscopes, fingerprints) and a display of longer term projects with take home recipes on how to do experiments at home as well as an app to see what famous scientist you are like. 4. Old Business a. Update on Officer positions for next year several spots have been filled.. many more are still open, see the list on FACEBOOK and tell your friends to look and see where they would like to help. b. Parent Feedback from BnB i. Most people liked having it in February, so we will plan that next year. ii. Lots of frustration on sound system: Kicker just donated 4 large speakers! We will have someone come in and look at our current system and new speakers and see what the best set up would be. This will help assemblies, BnB, Christmas Sing-a-long, and all other activities in the gym!! THANK YOU KICKER!! c. Input concerns about Poor communication on events/schedules: Proposal to spend some of BnB money on a digital marquee to replace sign out front to better share info on school activities. 5. New Business a. Thanks to your generous giving and our corporate sponsors, we do have additional money to spend this year and next for items we think are important for our school and kids. We will be voting on some items in the April General meeting. If you have input or ideas please get them to Kristi Riley kmr118@hotmail.com or Amy Gallegos amyrgallegos@brightok.net b. Master Calendar proposal to make up a master calendar for all PTA events for the school year and having it to hand out to parents at enrollment day and meet the teacher night. It doesnt even need to have exact dates, but would give a good outline of what PTA provides and events, and also would keep parents updated on what is coming up next. c. Pre-K, K orientation: Consider having an orientation night with meet the teacher night to meet with new Sangre parents and let them know where things are, how things operate, how they can stay involved, etc We wish we had that when we were new d. PARENTS NIGHT OUT THANK YOU!! April 25th 5:30-8:30 Sangre Students and siblings, 4yrs and up..As a thank you to all the parents this year for all they have given to the school, the PTA would like to provide you with a night out! Teachers will be at the school and serve pizza (paid by PTA), and organize games in the gym and movies in several classrooms. Space will be limited by amt of teachers, probably up to 200 kids. More details to come!
