Greetings to all the 2009 NaFFAA-NY Ten Outstanding Fathers of the Year awardees.
Six year ago, Sir Roger Alama who was then the NaFFAA-NY State Chair, re-
quested me to take over the chairmanship of NaFFAA-NY because he had to assume
the presidency of PIDCI. I was quite hesitant to take the job because I did not think I
was capable of handling it. However, the members present assured me that I had their
support and so I thought I will try to continue his term. Everything went well and had
been re-elected twice.
In all my six years I had fun working with the group - every one has been there
to ensure the success of whatever endeavor we undertook.
We have also played an active role in the passage FILVET and shared the joy of the
Filipino American veterans when they finally received what is due them after 60 odd
years from the U.S. government.
Sincerely,
Welcome! It is with great pride that the 2009 NaFFAA Fathers Of The Year have been
selected. Some of you have asked why you were considered for the title. Let me tell
you this: I do not know some of you but surely, someone in this audience or someone
from somewhere knows you - knows your character and knows your accomplish-
ments as a father. Reading your life stories have given me the conclusion that you are
heroes - for the strength of your character, your persistence and perseverance through
life, what you have made of yourselves this far, surpassing all adversities and sacri-
fices, and most of all your love of family, distinguishing yourself as an inspiration to
your children. It is not only the education you have gained but rather how you have
shared that knowledge, the discipline you have inculcated in your children. It is not
only the accomplishments you have achieved but rather the family values you have
instilled in your children for their own welfare and success.
A friend have mentioned to me that the difference between a mother and a father is:
That a father knows best, while a mother sacrifices the most. A father by tradition is
the head of a family, the breadwinner, invariably the most respected, can do no wrong
in the eyes of your wife, a role model revered by the children. A father is the tie that
binds the family with significant contributions into the rearing of the children. You
have proclaimed your love and have given it unconditionally. You have shared your
wisdom and have assimilated fatherhood into the everyday nuances of family life.
A man cannot be called a father without having had a child. The life of a child is some-
how influenced by parents. Children live by example and to that point, we would like
to recognize the characteristics of a great father that we have found in you. We know
that you deserve to be called Father Of The year, not only of the year 2009 but for al-
ways - not only for what you have made of yourselves but also for what your children
have made of themselves because of you.
Congratulations and on behalf of NaFFAA New York, I wish you all the best !
