GERTES NARRATIVE REPORT Our group was assigned to have the community duty at the Main Health Center from February 10-13, 17-20, 24-27 and March 3-7, 2014 from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. The first day was scheduled as the orientation day for the whole class. It was held at the Nursing Laboratory Skills headed by our Dean, Mr. Ponciano Malabanan together with our Clinical Instructor Ms. Lavinia Malabuyoc RN MAN.

The orientation started from 8:00 am and ended at 11:30 am. The students requested to stay at the school since it was late to have their duty at the Rural Health Center. Having an orientation is a protocol and needs to be adhere to ensure safe and quality service being delivered to clients. As we heard that we were the group assigned to main health center, the group were thrilled since this will be their first time. Members of the group experience exposure on south district and west district. They believe that venturing in this experience will be an edge and a roadmap for new learning. On our first exposure the group was oriented on the facilities and staffs who will be with them for the next days. Weve seen the laboratory, pharmacy, front desk, doctors desk, nurses desk, midvives desk and the DOTS Center or the Tutok gamutan Facility for long- term medication clients. This was given free by the government as a return to lipenos income tax returns. We equipped ourselves on different concerns of lipenos and the proper means and ways to accommodate the said concerns.

The group decide to divide the group in different committees and rotate it each day to experience everything happens on the center. Every Mondays, the staff opened at around 10: 00 AM because of the flag ceremony, hence we always see to it to gave that care to community people. The routines were checking the vital signs including the weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate and respiratory rate. It will be recorder on patient health record. If the client had already checked up, the staff had safety keep the record so there will be a continuous care. Most often, clients seek medical attention for cough and colds, for fever, tonsillitis, abdominal pain and headache. Some seek for anti- rabies when bitten by a suspected rabid animal. Other cases look for minor surgery, we got that opportunity to assist and apply what we have learn on O.R. Principles. Its been heart- touching to see these person caring for their health and its also heart warming to governments vision to deliver quality care. Moreover, We are so happy that the government made their best to offer free or low cost health service. The free medicines and laboratories is really a big help specially to those who are economically unfortunate. The TB- DOTS or the Directly Observed Treatment Short course is a big help to TB patients suffered physically and financially. They offer Free sputum examinations. As Nursing students we assist on their routines. As far of our knowledge we offer informal health teaching on some questions they thrown. We answered it based on the best of our abilities and with the guide of our adviser.

The free dental check- up and extraction is also a big help to those who suffered the pain but cannot afford to go to private sectors. This is a living proof that the government cares for the oral health and totality of individuals. We as a students, assist on documenting and arranging the clients according to number. Pre- natal check- up is also commendable that it will care to clients, the mother and as well as the baby. As the Millennium goal stated, the mortality rate of pregnant women is aimed to lessen. By this economically unfortunate and dont afford to go to private sector gain their right to bear child properly monitored and deliver it safely. We nursing students assist them and had a health teaching on our last day of exposure. We discussed the Developmental stage of the fetus in the intrauterine life. They understood whats going inside. We impart also the nutrition they should be into specially to those who are planning and expectant mothers. Expanded Program for immunization is also a project to eradicate disease or lessen the morbidity and mortality of some illness. It is a happy feeling that the government cares for the baby and prioritizing their health. Children should be immunized to prevent mortality causing infections. We assisted on vital signs taking and recording for the client. In here, we are exposed on proper technique on injecting a newbord and infant. We also experience witnessing NewBorn Screening which aims to detect metabaolic disorder and prevent mental retardation and even death. The government concerns as well on family planning. They offer free check up and opinion from the experts on what the family could take into on controlling birth.

There are hormonal pills, condoms, IUDs and injectables. There are times that we are being asked and we answer it knowledgeably and with the guide of our adviser. As we choose our profession, we equipped ourselves that someday we will also serve Filipinoes seeking medical attention in a government facility. The service we commit may be in depth, but by the best of our will and knowledge, I could say, that we are ready for the world of passion and service. Serving people of the Philippines.
