An "umbrella" insurance policy is essential for anyone with significant net worth. It pays for settlements and legal fees that exceed the personal liability limits of homeowners and automobile insurance policies. Because umbrella insurance usually requires specific liability limits on the policies upon which it is piggybacking, it may be necessary to boost coverage. According to the Insurance Information Institute, the typical homeowner will find that he or she can get a $1 million umbrella policy for $250 to $400 per year. As a general rule of thumb, it is often recommended that those interested in getting an umbrella policy seek coverage equal to one to two times their exposed (meaning vulnerable in their estate) net worth. Should you have an umbrella policy? We will help make it easy for you to comfortably select the best policy that best satisfies your insurance needs. We work very closely with our clients to provide the best coverage available for every dollar spent. It makes good sense to take advantage of the expert advice our team of experienced insurance professionals can provide at 269 Main Street, Zumbrota. It is our goal to ensure that all customers maintain a firm sense of security, for themselves, families and their properties. Call 507-732-5693 today and let our experience work for you.

Olmsted Medical Center launches two websites

Olmsted Medical Center (OMC) and the OMC Regional Foundation, in partnership with Geonetric, an online solutions provider for the healthcare sector, have launched two new responsive websites. The new websites deliver on OMCs brand promise of exceptional, personal care and showcase the organizations strong community connections. As the healthcare sector evolves, patients increasingly are expecting online services that deliver user experiences similar to those already provided by the travel, banking, and hospitality industries, said Jeremy Salucka, OMCs communication and web services coordinator. Our new site will offer a much more intuitive and interactive experience for anyone looking to apply for a job, find a location, register for a class, or learn about an OMC clinician. A comprehensive events calendar, estimated wait-time indicators, and a host of other interactive health tools join existing transactional services like the MyOMC clinical patient portal and online bill pay. OMCs new website is built on Geonetrics VitalSitecontent management system (CMS) and uses responsive design, which means the website automatically rearranges content based on the screen size of the site users browsing device. Smartphone and tablet computing are rapidly replacing traditional desktop computers as peoples go-to devices, says Sue Schuett, chief information officer at OMC. And increased patient involvement with their medical records, providers, and treatments/ services is the most common theme in recent healthcare legislation. Moving to the VitalSiteCMS and new design/layout gives OMC more tools to help patients engage in their own healthcare.

New Haven Sodbusters held a food drive in March

By Andrew Bogard PINE ISLAND On Sunday, March 9, the first day of daylight savings time, the New Haven Sodbusters 4-H Club held its monthly meeting at St. Michaels Catholic Church. To celebrate the iconic four-leaf green clover symbolizing 4-H and the Irish tradition of St. Patricks Day, members wore green. Community Pride projects for the month included a food drive for the local food shelf and baking cookies for the Pine Haven Care Center. Kristina, Aiden, and Lynela Allen-Becker delivered the 76 pounds of food donations and the Mentjes, Bogard, and Culbertson families baked and delivered the cookies to Pine Haven. Youth leader Ryan McNallan and Adult Leader Jan McNallan coordinated a silent auction during the meeting to raise funds for the clubs Fleece for Warmth project. Ryan and Jan have submitted a proposal for a Minnesota 4-H Foundation Helping Hands Grant to supplement the project. Demonstrations were given by Mitchell Kaul and Jordan Befort on snowmobile safety, Aidan Rucker on how to make homemade popcorn, Grace Rucker on how to make deviled eggs, and Mariah Nadolny on how to make tasty rainbow cupcakes. Fair project reports were given by Grace Rucker and Meredith Kottom. Ericka Rucker coordinated the Cloverbuds project, with the young members making wonderful shamrock decorations. Acknowledgment went to the top club candy sellers, the Zemke and Simpson families. County 4-H pins were given to Luke, Meredith, and Natalie Kottom, James Rossman, Anna Rucker, and Anne and Jamie Simpson for completion of their first year in 4-H. Five-year pins were awarded to Mariah Nadolny, Kaedyn Peterson-Rucker, and Taylor Schroder. Andrew and Patrick Bogard, Mariah Nadolny, and Jessica McNallan were selected to represent Olmsted County at Citizenship Washington Focus June 28 through July 6 in Washington D.C. The annual county Hog Roast fundraising event, which is on Sunday, April 27, was discussed and a sign-up was distributed for the items to be added to the clubs basket for the live auction. The Alberts Family will be coordinating this project. The winter activity sledding party at the Kauls farm was a great success with 35 people attending. Lastly, the club youth leaders met for a fun afternoon of bowling on March 15. The next meeting will be Sunday, April 13 at 5 p.m. at St. Michaels Church. If you are interested in joining the New Haven Sodbusters, please contact the club key leader, Connie Bogard, at 367-2672.

Beatles tribute coming to the State Theatre

ZUMBROTA Hear the music of The Beatles while enjoying news and film clips about the groups Sgt. Peppers years at The Beatles: Part II, a concert and rockumentary by Justin Ploof and the Throwbacks at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the State Theatre. Crossings is bringing the band back for this second installment of a Beatles tribute concert. Most importantly, the Throwbacks authentically reproduce the music of The Beatles, this time covering the time span when the band stopped touring and devoted themselves entirely to the studio. They released the legendary masterpiece Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and ushered in a new form of record making. Beyond the music, the audience will Witness the End of an Era, through stories, anecdotes and fascinating facts chronicled on vintage footage and other media. The Beatles would continue in their dominance of the Billboard Charts through this era, posting another 10 number one hits, as well as continue to change pops musical landscape with five charttopping albums. In the end, they would leave a music catalogue that started a revolution and that still influences pop and rock music today. The Throwbacks performed The Beatles: Part I in Zumbrota the first of March. The core group, Justin Ploof, Jason Ploof, and Dan Ploof have a multitude of professional music experience and have shared the stage with the likes of Soul Asylum, Bobby Vee, Joan Jett, and Jessie Lang. Their incredible attention to detail and quality of musicianship will wow audiences from the first chord. They work to emulate the songs the way the artists meant for them to be performed. To reserve tickets, visit www.crossingsatcarnegie.com, call 507-732-7616, or stop in to Crossings at 320 East Avenue in Zumbrota.

CHI intervention coincides with decline in drug and alcohol use

By the Goodhue County Chemical Health Initiative The Chemical Health Initiative of Goodhue County (CHI) is a collective impact coalition dedicated to providing prevention and education awareness to our communities and schools to better enhance the lives of citizens in Goodhue County. Over the past ten years, CHI programs such as social host, mandatory alcohol seller/server training and drug paraphernalia ordinances; the creation of Cannon Falls, Zumbrota and Red Wing Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) groups; and the creation of School Chemical Health Assessment Teams (CHAT) have coincided with decreases in alcohol and drug use among youths. The data on the charts below show the improvements made with regard to youth alcohol, tobacco and marijuana use based on the 2004 Minnesota Student Survey results (CHI baseline data) and the 2012 Student Survey results. Chemical Health Initiative holds councils in Red Wing, Cannon Falls, Goodhue, Zumbrota, and Kenyon-Wanamingo. The councils are always looking for additional volunteers to step forward to be leaders in the community in assisting the CHI to help raise awareness, educate, and prevent substance abuse among our youth. Volunteering on a council entails attending a one-hour meeting held once a month and coming together as a council to carry out events and activities to help promote chemical health. If you are interested in being a part of any council in Goodhue County, please email the CHI at or you may reach them at 651-385-3307.

The superintendent thanked her for representing Pine Island. E. TECHNOLOGY UPDATE: Taylor Bauman reported to the board about recent developments such as the Help Desk, technology committee meeting, and snow days. We have had inquiries about technology use during snow days. We had about 90% participation of students when we implemented it. The computer carts are being used every day. District technology labs were discussed. They are used a lot. IPad carts are working well and being utilized daily. We are 99% complete with our wireless. MDE issued a statement concerning using tablets during testing. They will not support use of tablets of any kind for at least 2 years. We will need to come up with a plan to use other devices. A blended environment was discussed by the technology committee. Our student information system was discussed as to whether PowerSchool and the lunch program are what we need. The committee looked at Moodle to see if that is the best program for our school. CWD published an article about Pine Island School technology. Taylor and Kevin are working on a tablet audit for the end of the year. The technology department starting summer planning. Theyre continuing to spread the word about our 1:1 journey. There will be a team presenting to Tierney Bros. tomorrow. COLLABORATIVE WORK ENVIRONMENT A. NEGOTIATIONS AND AGREEMENTS: There will be a meeting next week. We had an OSHA review last week and are following up on it. We are expecting a visit from the State Fire Marshall soon. The supt. will be attending the MASA conference. F. SNOW DAY PLAN REVIEW: All teaching staff has the opportunity to record time served to make up for up to four missed days. Time recorded must be approved by the building administrator. Day 5 was made up as a staff development day on Presidents Day. Now that we have 7 snow days, it is recommended that the PreK-8 principal be given the discretion to define the makeup expectations for teachers serving grades PreK-8 for days 6 and 7. Our high school students worked online those 2 snow days. Motion by Warneke, seconded by Fall to approve the plan as presented. Motion carried 6-0. HIGH SCHOOL UPDATE: Mr. Cardille has heard a lot of good things about the online learning during the snow days. Power outages were an issue. The student advisory group wants to collect books, clothing, etc. after the city-wide rummage sale to give to the needy. The registration process is continuing. This year they had a student registration information morning about the electives with Ms. Taffe, the counselor. Registration was done online. It could be done at home with parents this year on their electronic devices. Some subjects had a power point presentation describing their department. There were a lot of positive comments from the students about that. The ALP program for Pine Island has been discontinued by the State. We used to be able to run summer school and get funding through the State. Everything has to go through the ALC now. Transportation is a concern during the summer. The State does not compensate us for that. STUDENT REP UPDATE: In the student reps absence, Mr. Cardille presented to the board. Some social media has caused some problems lately. Mr. Cardille said the students like the recognition of their accomplishments, especially the non-athletic events. Mrs. Taffe was recognized for all her help with registration. There was some confusion with the Project Lead the Way class registration. Another class was added in the last few days. Other districts are offering more than one PLW class per year. We thought the classes were not supposed to be
