A passive component that offers resistance is known as Resistor. Found two types of resistors: fixed resistors and variable resistors. Resistance values are indicated by a

standard color code. This code uses color band on the body of resistor, the color code
was introduced because it was easier to mark small components than to print values on them. Normally there is three or four color bands rouped to ether and then there are a bit of a space in the roupin followed by one last color band. !ariable resistor that resistor can be chan ed easily, and it"s have two basic uses to divide volta e and to control current #potentiometer and rheostat$.

'0 The third color represents number of 1ero. ,0 The four color represent the tolerance. /now: we can calculate the resistance value by:
/ !ariable resistor: A variable resistor is a resistor of which the electric resistance value can be adjusted. A variable resistor is in essence an electro-mechanical transducer and normally works by sliding a contact (wiper) over a resistive element. When a variable resistor is used as a potential divider by using 3 terminals it is called a potentiometer. When only two terminals are used it functions as a variable resistance and is called a rheostat. !lectronically controlled variable resistors e"ist which can be controlled electronically instead of by mechanical action. #hese resistors are called digital potentiometers.

voltages so you will put a resistor in to split or lower the voltage. #hey can also be used as a safety mechanism if a circuit e"ceeds safe margins. $ .
