Mary Sue’s grandchildren call her creations “Mee Maw’s Cats.” Designed after those made of expensive tapestry, these fuzzy kitties could be doorstops; simply insert a box of salt into the body and stuff around it.

FINISHING

Lay cat body down on table and flatten so that the hump is on the left side. Find center of face, secure eyes at lower edge of Rnd 3, with 4 sts be tween the post of the eyes. Stuff head with fiberfill, using care not to overstuff (overstuffing causes fiberfill to show between sts). Contin ue to stuff body with all fiberfill or in sert salt box into body and stuff with fiberfill around salt box, retaining the oval shape. Sew bottom oval to base of body. Center nose and cheeks under eyes, sew in place, placing a small amount of fiberfill under each cheek. With yarn needle and length of peach yarn, whip st over and over the nose piece in V-shape; stitch a long stitch between the cheeks, overlapping twice. Leave a 2-inch space between ears, sew ears to top of head. Sew paws side by side at base of body directly in line with cheeks, stuffing with fiberfill before closing. Place end of tail at center back base of cat, pass along lower edge to ward front and angle it up just before the paws; sew tail in place.

Whiskers

Cut a 5-inch length of 4-ply white yarn; separate the plies. Wet each ply of yarn with glue. With yarn needle, pass ply through cheeks from 1 side and out the other. Rep with rem 3 glue-coated plies. As glue dries, pull gently to straighten whiskers. Allow to dry completely.
