The Union Grove Union High School District believes in providing the highest quality of education for our students. This letter is intended to provide information about a new three-tiered instructional approach that will be implemented to meet this goal. This is referred to as Response to Intervention (RtI), which is now part of federal educational law. For RtI, all students will participate in the core curriculum, with three tiers of interventions for students who demonstrate at-risk skills in general academics or behavior. Each tier provides additional support beyond the core curriculum, while also providing options to students succeeding in their academics; extra time with teachers, enrichment to their content areas and study groups. During 2013-14 school year, teachers, administrators and other school staff studied various implementation models, visited many schools and developed a vision of change where our schedule will now dedicate a 35 minute block of time during the school day known as B.R.O.N.C.O.S. Period. The vision for the use of this time is identified as follows: The B.R.O.N.C.O.S. Period needs to be scheduled during the school day to ensure ALL students have access to support, enrichment, and interventions. The B.R.O.N.C.O.S. Period provides students with opportunities to receive just in time support on the current concepts and/or assignments in their coursework. There will also be enrichment opportunities for students seeking challenges beyond their class requirements. Finally, when assessment data indicates that a student or group of students have a deficit in a particular area, they will have time in their schedule to address such needs.

Dear Union Grove Parents/Guardians and Students,

Beginning 4th term, the high school will pilot the B.R.O.N.C.O.S. Period for a six week session predicting full implementation in the fall of the 2014-2015 school year. Our school is excited to take part in this process to improve educational outcomes for all students. Please watch our RTI informational video on the UGHS website, http://www.ug.k12.wi.us for additional information and as always, do not hesitate to contact school administration if you have any questions. We share our mission with you:

UGHS will provide high-quality instruction and appropriate academic interventions, to ensure all students have the resources necessary to reach their full potential. Teachers and support staff will monitor the rate at which students learn and the level at which they perform. Data collected will be used to make decisions about instruction, goals, and eligibility for special education.
