Unforgettable Fiji
In a world of over 333 islands with almost every conceivable activity to choose from, it is without wonder
why Canadian travellers make Fiji their top destination of choice for a vacation away. Fiji has been rated
among the top 15 affordable countries for travellers during the current recession in the US financial
market, according to the website Forbes.com.
Whether travellers are seeking to delve into adventure on a white
water rafting excursion, rekindling romance on an exotic private one
island resort or immersing themselves in a dynamic culture, there is
something for everyone.
As tourist destination of choice, Fiji offers something for everyone
and travellers are keen to visit the pristine Pacific Island destination.
According to Tourism Fiji, the national tourist board for the Fiji Islands,
Fiji’s popularity keeps on increasing – last year 17,755 Canadians visited
Fiji, an increase of 4% compared to 2007.
“Fiji is one of the many places that has suddenly become more
affordable to Canadian travellers,” according to Tourism Fiji Americas
Regional Director Ili Matatolu. A recent 20% devaluation of the Fiji
dollar coupled with a 40% gain by the Canadian dollar means that
CAD$100 currently buys FJ$179 on the ground. Matatolu added
“The code share arrangement between Alaska Airlines and Air Pacific
also makes air connections easier for our Canadian friends to fly to Fiji.
We hope that Canadians will take advantage of this in addition to the
extremely favourable exchange rates and fantastic deals available from
the country’s industry partners.”
Here’s why Canadian travellers will want to make Fiji their destination
of choice:

& the 2010 Winter Games
British Columbia’s appeal lies in its unique
combination of world-class urban and natural
wonders and the irrepressible eagerness of British
Columbians to share it all with you. The challenge
is not figuring out what do to, but how to do it all.
You won’t want to miss a thing!
Vancouver
Vancouver is an urban oasis set against a stunning Coast Mountain
backdrop and a lively compilation of great neighbourhoods. There’s the
hustle and bustle of Chinatown – one of the largest on the continent –
offering visitors a wealth of intriguing architecture, history and delicious
tastes. The boisterous strip of Little Italy on Commercial Drive, boasts
all things counterculture, from bookstores to bohemian cafés. Hipster
haven Main Street is robust with cafés, boutiques and an array of ethnic
and vegetarian dining options. False Creek’s Granville Island features
shops, artisan galleries, seafood restaurants, street entertainment
and the liveliest public market anywhere. And don’t miss the trendy
restored warehouse district of Yaletown, with narrow cobbled streets,
trendy shops and top eateries. With parks and beaches, dining and
theatre, Vancouver is one of the few places in the world where you can
ski, hike, golf and shop, all on the same day!
Victoria
Modern yet historic, BC’s lively capital offers guests a mix of quaint
British charm and hip attitude, luring visitors looking for a little
bit ‘o’ England. Gorgeous gardens and stately castles captivate, while
rejuvenating spas, funky shops and exceptional restaurants beckon.
Victoria’s Inner Harbour is the picture of old world charm and home to
BC’s Legislative Buildings. Have afternoon tea at the Fairmont Empress
Hotel and pop in to the Royal BC Museum. Victoria’s Chinatown – once
noted for its opium dens and gambling houses – is a must-see. Traverse
the Gate of Harmonious Interest and stroll Fan Tan Alley. The Butchart
Gardens are a designated National Historic Site. Hatley Castle boasts
Canada’s only intact Edwardian garden and Craigdarroch Castle is just a
short walk from the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. A visit to Victoria
might just fill the bill for those visiting Vancouver and/or Whistler during
the Games, eager to experience more of what BC has to offer.
Whistler
Whistler is the Host Mountain Resort of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic
and Paralympic Winter Games. Whether you explore on foot, via
zipline, sit sipping a cold one with friends or take to the slopes, you’ll
feel the excitement in this world-class resort. Year after year, Whistler

mountains to climb, river rapids to run, sea-sprayed beaches to comb,
