north to Boyne Highlands for Carnival weekend. Ramon E, Eric Z, Steve G, Pat R, Steve N, Michael R, Kent F tell me we had a great time but all I remember is the Safe Boating Seminar that we attended. As the ice continues to melt we may have some interesting ice formations along the lake shore west of the club if we get a good NE storm. We have had some interesting formations already this year by the Marblehead lighthouse and the west Portage River pier. A heavy NE wind, high water, and ice under the docks are not a good combination for PCYC docks. I might even relive my earlier days at the Club and challenge climbing the ice formations if they form. Maybe I will just take pictures instead! The Rear Commodore already has the tennis court ready to play. We are hoping for some nice days to remove tree branches and leaves from the grounds ahead of the April 13th work party. It could rain that weekend and we want to make use of any nice days that we have. When we start talking "Work Party" we know that spring is just around the corner. The Sailing seminar on March 22 at PCYC was very informative. I have a better appreciation for the knowledge or in some cases the lack of knowledge of our sailors. I learned I need to stick to moving race buoys and stay on a power boat. The next opportunity to learn more about sailing will be at SSC on Saturday, April 19. This will be a Race Management Seminar which is very important for those wishing to help out with our races. Another educational opportunity will be the Weather Seminar at our club on Sunday, May 18th. Please sign up at the bar for that meeting. In April we have scheduled a FNS, the Tax Day Party, the Kids Easter Party, the Work Party, and a BYOS. Next year's Social Calendar (May 1, 2014 - Apr 30, 2015) is being proof read and soon will be printed and mailed in early April. At this time we could use some extra help on the Mothers' Day Committee and the New Years Eve function. If you would like to participate please contact Dr. Pat Reineck of the Social committee. Finally, in May, on Memorial Day, I would like to ask all PCYC current military and Veterans to help celebrate the short riverfront ceremony here at the club at 9:00 am before the community ceremony at Veterans Park at 10:00 am. I would also like to congratulate PCYC members son Tristan Auxter on receiving his Boy Scout Eagle Award recently. He was presented his award by Dr. Derrill Hablitzel, who was the second Eagle Scout in Ottawa County in 1932.

Spring has sprung and the risers are in at PCYC awaiting your boats. "April Fool" !!! We are having a bit of a problem with 18 inches of ice in the lagoon. However, on the positive side the ice gave Eric and Doug the opportunity to catch some nice perch for the Junior Sail Fundraiser. See the photo on page 4. I asked Doug F to cut some more holes around the docks for riser placement but he declined my invitation. Since the lagoon was full of ice we cancelled the riser party and the PCYC snow ski team headed

After you have read the Commodores report you may see a common theme with my report; cold, ice, winter like weather. March is supposed to be a month of transition from winter to spring. By this time of year we usually can spot a few early boaters in their docks. That has not happened yet. Our annual Riser Party is scheduled for the weekend of April 6th, not March 30th as the social calendar suggests. As that date approaches we will evaluate whether the risers can be installed due to the ice. In spite of the weather we continue with our activities. Everyone enjoyed themselves at our Mardi Gras party in preparation for Fat Tuesday and all the Irish were out for our St. Patricks Day party. For a first time our regular stag event was changed to a Family Burger event on Sunday evening. I hope everyone enjoyed this event as it was rescheduled from Wednesday due to a level 3 snow storm. By the way, the burgers were very tasty. Our annual Spring Work Party date is approaching fast and is scheduled for April 13th. We depend on our members at this event to assist in our spring preparation of the club house and grounds for the summer of events and use. Please do consider working at this event as there are many projects to complete and we are a working club. We will serve a hearty lunch and bloody Marys for anyone who shows up to work. If we encounter bad weather for that day we ask that volunteers consider coming to the club on their leisure to assist in cleanup items on any nice day. Please see Chuck Reichman if you have any time to contribute. Our mens restroom remodeling project will start soon. Please be patient of the inconveniences while we complete this project. During this project, portable toilets are located at the rear entrance to the club house for the mens use. We are stepping back and taking another perspective of our club house glass house replacement project. Other potential options have become apparent to our board and planning committee. So as to not take the incorrect path for our membership we are looking at the bar, the

The first "Cruise-Out" of the year will be held April 25,26,27. This event could actually be an "Ice -Breaker", as the lake is still frozen over. For this event we typically go to "A" Dock, but that may not be an option this year. The city docks are currently being renovated. We may have to look for alternative dock space. I will keep all those that have signed up in the loop as the dates get closer. No matter the weather it is always great to get back to PIB to start the season. The "Cruise-Out" book is at the bar. Please take the time to sign up for upcoming cruising events. The more people that participate, the better the event. Happy boating, RJ Basil, FCOP

Jr. Fish Fry March 21st Thank you to the Bergeman Brothers for all their hard work. Nobody makes perch better then they do. The dinner was a success! Thanks to all those that attended and those that donated extra. All proceeds are being directed to the Jr. Sail program. Key volunteers included Bergmans, Sprengers, Millers, Leones, Wenzingers, Sniders, Eickerts, and Sara Hanselman. Sailing Symposium March 22nd We followed up the Jr. Fish Fry with a wonderful presentation by Greg Koski from Uhlman Sails. Greg is a very accomplished sailor and sail maker who has won many national and world titles in various boats. His topics included Pre Race preparation, rig tuning, starts, upwind and downwind strategies. I really enjoyed the personal stories that he included. Cliff Ruckstill made this event possible. It was not only an educational seminar but also a Jr. Sailing Fundraiser event. 31 people attended including 5 Jr. sailors. Thank you to Ranae Ruckstill and Sara Hanselman for putting on a wonderful lunch. ILYA Meeting April 4th and 5th This meeting will be held in West Lake. Topics that are discussed include Jr. Power, Jr. Sailing, and Adult Power and Sailing activities. There is also a tradeshow area and various education symFCOS Continued on page 4.

posiums being held on Saturday April 5th. I know that a few of us will be attending on Saturday. If you would like to attend please call me and we can carpool Race Management Seminar Saturday April 19th. This is a 1 day seminar that is being held at the Sandusky Sailing Club. This is a race management class. I highly recommend this seminar for race course volunteers and racing sailors. We have a number of members that will be attending. Please call me for details and car pooling. Secret Boating News/Gossip Secret Gossip #1 Jim Miller has purchased another sailboat. A 30+ foot Beneteau sailboat. I am not sure of the size because he has kept it covered and hidden in a secret location very much like an Americas Cup boat. Happy Birthday Deloris. Secret Gossip #2 Mark Sprenger will be sporting a new Main Sail on Thin Ice. Happy Birthday Linda. Secret Gossip #3 Cliff Ruckstill ordered a new spinnaker. Happy Anniversary Ranae. Secret Gossip #4 Rumor has it that Bill Taylor, not to be confused with his dad Bill Taylor, is in the market to buy he and his boys a J-24. It should tow nicely behind the Egg Harbor. Merry Christmas Rhonda. (We hope all purchases were made with the blessing of the wives.) April showers bring May Boat launches. The hard winter has made this years launch even more exciting. I have seen lots of activity going on in the boat yards already. 40 degree weather used to be too cold for me to think about going and working on the boat. Not this year. Give me some 40 degrees and sunshine and I am zipping open the shrink wrap. FcoS Ramon Eickert

glass house, and the main club house as how it should be best changed for the future of this club. As fiscal officers this is our duty. Many other options need to be included into this plan such as flow and general appearance of what we want our club to be. We will be keeping you up to date on this in the future. No vote is planned now for the May membership meeting. In the meantime please ask any Flag or Board member if you have any questions. Again, your ideas are what this club is about.
