With the growing demand for technology in the healthcare setting, I propose a training session that will teach

five (5) present medical record administrators from various healthcare offices within the community how to successfully navigate and perform essential duties using an electronic m e d i c a l r e c o r d ( E M R ) s ys t e m . T h i s t r a i n i n g w i l l p r o v i d e l e a r n e r s t h e opportunity to use hands -on-learning and return demonstration while the instructor is present to assist. This training program is conducive to adult learner needs as it encourages self -directed learning and will benefit them in their current job responsibilities.

Training Program
Electronic Medical Records (EMR)

Objective(s): Learners will be able to:

1. Recall three (3) purposes for using electronic medical records in a healthcare setting. 2. Successfully demonstrate the correct procedure for scanning, uploading, and retrieving uploaded electronic documents. 3. Effectively delete documents upon request. Learners will feel confident in their ability to navigate the EMR system and successfully demonstrate skills to upload and retrieve medical documents as requested.

Result(s) desired:

Minute paper that includes questions such as, What question(s) remain uppermost in your mind as we end this session? (Angelo and Cross, 1993, p. 148).

Environment: Computer lab with five (5) desks, computers and scanners. Instructor will review and demonstrate how to properly scan, upload, and retrieve EMR documents. Return demonstration and questions. Detailed training explanation: Learner will be given select EMR reference materials. Learner will recall three (3) purposes for using EMRs in a healthcare setting. Evaluations will consist of the instructor conducting a verbal and demonstrative exam with each learner. Learner will be asked EMR questions and to successfully complete tasks as requested. Learners will not earn a passing or failing grade as this class is directed toward current healthcare employees who wish to further their technological abilities. There will be a

questionnaire available to learners to reflect on the training program and instructors performance. Examples of some questions include:

1) Were you as a learner able to accomplish or achieve the three (3) objectives in the time allotted? 2) Were you allowed ample time to ask questions? 3) Were your questions answered respectfully, adequately, and in a timely manner? 4) Were there enough hands-on activities? 5) Did the room contain adequate equipment (computers and scanners) to make handson learning easier? 6) Was instructor open, honest, and respectful of each learner? 7) Did instructor support each learner in his quest to learn? After completing this training session, learners will have the confidence and skills needed to be successful in an advancing technological healthcare environment. The abilities learned in this program will benefit them in their current job duties as well as future opportunities. If the training program receives positive feedback, it will be offered to other healthcare agencies within the community.
