AEU WINS MORE MONEY & BETTER CONDITIONS OF ALL SCHOOOL ASSISTANT CLASSIFICATIONS

Negotiated Proposal No progress but AEU will continue to campaign Generic ACTPS Wage outcome: Flat increase of $1777.00 for school assistants & $1902.00 for youth workers & liaison workers as from 01/07/13 6 x 1.5% increments as from 01/07/14 to 01/04/17 Allowances to increase by 2.0% Preschool Assistants [approx. 130] will be transferred from SA2 to SA2/3 and be eligible to apply for progression through the competency barrier. ACT Govt has set aside money to fund this progression. School Assistant Classification Review [extract from clause] The parties agree that the purpose of the review will be to: Develop a classification structure that supports career development for school assistants and meets school and system needs; Provide clear work expectations, including the required skills and qualifications, for the school assistant classification to enable career planning and inform recruitment decisions; Consider the relationship between any changed expectations and appropriate remuneration, taking into account the ACT Public Service - Work March 2013

That That school assistant roles and job descriptions be more clearly defined with and included in the enterprise agreement. That school assistants have a career path with regular progression That ETD recognise and remunerate school assistants for the holding or acquisition of position relevant skills and also appropriately remunerate, during the life of the EA, any changes to competency requirements. That school assistants have access to study/training leave by which to acquire relevant and recognised skills or qualifications and that they be reimbursed for approved study/training related expenses That school assistants have access to and be paid, appropriate allowances at least equal to those accessible by, and paid to, teaching staff and ASO staff in the ACTPS.

That the practise of unannounced and unilateral relocations of school assistants to fill other positions within the school cease until a process for such movements be agreed between the AEU, CPSU and ETD. Notwithstanding the right of school assistants to permanent employment at any stage, after completing one year of engagement, school assistants will be entitled to elect to become permanent if they are not already.

RECOGNITION OF ALL SCHOOL ASSISTANT CLASSIFICATIONS BY ETD FLAT RATE WAGE INCREASEE OF $1770 ($2090.00 x 0.85) to be back paid to July 2013 and then six 1.5% increases each over remaining three years PRESCHOOL ASSISTANTS TAKEN OUT OF THE SA2 CLASSIFICATION which they have been stuck in for over 30 years and placed in the SA2/3 classification. OVER 130 Assistants will be eligible to apply to progress through the competency barrier PLANNING AND PREPARTION TIME FOR ALL SCHOOL ASSISTANTS REVIEW OF ALL CLASSIFICATIONS, REMUNERATION, CAREER PATHS, QUALIFICATIONS & ALLOWANCES etc. to be completed within 12 months of FWC approval

PAYMENT & BACK PAYMENT OF SPECIAL EDUCATION ALLOWANCE & FIRST AID ALLOWANCE to many members who were entitled to it but did not receive it. You will be advised by ETD next week about the Common Terms and Conditions and also the School Assistant Schedule and have a period of time up to about 21 March to consider this with a ballot to take place soon after that. We will be holding MEMBER ONLY MEETINGS in the week beginning March 17 to gain feedback and discuss all the implications and clarify the changes of the new Enterprise Agreement. We will also be discussing what issues we will be taking with us from now and into the next EA. We would like to thank all of you for your support and dedication in helping us make a difference in this EA . Your feedback and input by attending meetings, email and calls have all contributed to the positive changes in the EA. Remember this is just the beginning!!!!
