C HAPTER 1

Preface

Learning to use AutoCAD software is similar to learning a new language. Sometimes when you say something in a foreign language to somebody, you exactly know and understand it but maybe your partner does not. The intention was clear but the execution was not. It is the same with AutoCAD. Although learning AutoCAD is not an easy style, you will have fun learning this exciting technology, even sometimes you will not understand why the program does not run or freeze. Your intention was obvious and clear, only command prompt was not correct, or the approach was wrong. Please do not give up in this situation! I promise you will sit back satised drinking a good glass of cold beer!

S ECTION 1

Creating Ground Floor External Walls

3. Check in the drawing area if the column grid is on the full screen; zoom in on it as much as the drawing area size allows it. The simplest way is to click double with the middle button of mouse (scroll) (Zoom Extents). At the same time check if the OSNAP and the ORTHO toggles are turned on (if they are active) in the status bar. 4. Check at the lower right corner of the drawing area (on the label before the Cut Plane), if the Medium Detail is active, if it is not click on display conguration and turn on the Medium Detail in the yout.

1. Press the top

Close button and hide the

Project Navigator, and press Ctrl+3 to display the Tool Palettes at the left side of the screen. 2. As earlier learned (Right-Click on the palette title bar and select from the yout) turn to the Design palette group, and choose the Walls palette.

5. Left-Click on the Tool Palettes of the CMU-8 wall type to start creating such a wall type.

6. By observing parameters of being drawn walls are displayed on the Properties palette docked at the right side and at the lower Command window (and by the cursor), program prompts to specify the start point of the rst wall. 7. Before selecting the start point check on the Properties palette that the Width parameter is 8 (xed parameter), the Base height parameter value is 10-0, and the Justify parameter is set to Baseline. NOTE! In the following the INTersections of the column grid will be used. If it is not succeeded to snap the INTersection, so described in Section 2.4 use the SHIFT + Right-Click to call out the Object Snap list during the command and select the INTersection from it.

10

8. If parameters are correct, draw the external walls with the INTersection of the column grid. First draw the walls of the Main Building, use as the start point A and 1 grid lines INTersection. To the wall end points use the INTersection of A and 2 grid lines.

First Wall

Third Wall - INTersection of E and 1 grid lines.

The last wall segment is made by the Close option, which means program will automatically closes the wholly drawn wall chain. Use the novelty of AutoCAD 2013 options became selectable in command window and click on the Close option in command line.

Second Wall - INTersection of E and 2 grid lines.

11

If it would not be successful to draw the four walls in a whole, then restart to draw the wall command (e.g.: by pressing ENTER), and from the last right end point continue to draw the walls. In this case do not use the Close option because the last wall segment will be closed to the start of newly created wall chain. 9. In the following you draw the passage connecting

two divisions. Select one of the drawn walls, and then select the Add Selected option from the Ribbon Contextual Wall tab. This command allows placing completely the same Properties element from which you started.

12

10. Specify the INTersection of C and 2 grid lines as the start points and as end points the INTersection of C and 3 grid lines.

12. The start points of the new wall will be the INTersection of D and 3 grid lines, the end points will be the INTersection of D and 2 grid lines, and then close the drawing wall by pressing ENTER.

Then nish wall drawing with Right-Click or by pressing ENTER. 11. After drawing the wall the original selected wall remains selected until selection is discarded with ESC , so Right- Click and the Add Selected command will be also there, and select it. Save the drawing with the Save ! icon.

Creating Internal Walls of Main Building Entry Level

2. On the displayed Options panel search for the AEC Object Settings tab by stepping to the right, and set on it the value of the Autosnap Radius parameter to 1-8. M a k e s u re t h a t t h e A u t o s n a p N e w Wa l l Justication Lines and the Autosnap Grip Edited Justication Lines are turned on.

In the following internal walls of the Entry Level will be created. Before it some settings are made. 1. First open the Options... panel by clicking on the Customize icon on the title bar of the command window.

3. Press OK to close the Option panel. !

14

ATTENTION! This setting is valid only for the current drawing. The mechanism will be searching for existing walls at the ends of the new walls in 1-8 radius and the new wall is automatically extended to that justication line (baseline). It makes signicantly easier to respect the basic rules of the wall cleaning.

6. Before specifying the start point check again on the Properties palette if the Width parameter is 8 (xed value), the Base height parameter value is 9-0, and the Justify parameter is set to Center.

4. Save the drawing with the Save safety reason.

5. Start to add the Brick-4 Brick-4 type wall from the Walls palette.

15

8. As the end point, specify the intersection of the facing wall and C grid line, and then press ENTER.

11. Click in the Name cell and type the new wall style Brick-4. At the same time delete the content of Description and Keynote cells not to be confusing. 9. The next step is to modify the wall that you make a copy of the existing wall. Select the last inserted wall, and start the Copy Style command from the Contextual Wall tab of the Ribbon.

12. After renaming turn to the Components tab. Then go to the line of the Brick Veneer (Structural) 10. As a result the Wall Styles Properties panel opens at once, the name of the style is completed by a (2) number, and the new style is assigned to the originally selected wall.

The name of the remained component correct to Brick, value of the Width, and the Priority and the Edge Offset and the Function column remain invariably (4; 810; 0; Non-Structural), at the Dimension column set the checkboxes as shown in the gure. Position its start point to the right place by using the OTRACK (Object Snap Tracking) technique. 15. Make sure if the OSNAP and the OTRACK toggles in the status bar are turned on.

14. After closing the panel with OK, discard the wall selection by pressing ESC. There are two techniques for editing vertical internal wall starting some distance from the existing wall. One of the internal walls is specied by the

Then let the mouse go and type the desired distance: 3-6 and press ENTER. 17. Check the value of the Width is 4, the Base height is 9-0, and the Justify is Center on the Properties palette.

19. As the start point of the wall AutoCAD species the point horizontally 3-6 far, and you can drag the wall up with center justication. But if you need 3-6 clearance, you have to change the wall justication, 18. If everything is right, TOUCH the internal corner point of the external walls with the center of the crosshair to see the square sign of the ENDpoint. DO NOT CLICK the point, but pull gently the crosshair horizontally on inside of the wall to display the dashed line of the Object Snap Tracking, and a not to be justied to the center. The wall justication can be changed by pressing SHIFT button during the current operation. Press it till the wall justication changes to Right. After it snap to the PERpendicular, specify the other endpoints of the wall. Press ENTER to nish the wall drawing.

The SHIFT button is more comfortable because it is not necessary to leave the drawing area with the cursor. 4-7 and 8-7 and press ENTER to nish the copy. (The thickness of the wall being copied should be added to 4-3 and 3-8-wall distances.)

22. As a result three parallel walls are shown. 20. Press ESC to discard the selection of horizontal wall and select the wall drawn just now and go to the Home tab of the Ribbon and from the Modify panel start the AutoCAD Copy command. 23. Select the middle of the three internal walls to display grips on it. 24. Left-Click in the triangular grip of the top end of the wall, and now 21. To command prompt specify the base point of the copy on an empty area, and then move the with the red grip responsible for lengthen, drag the end of the wall to

26. If construction line is seen, once Left-Click, and drag the crosshair to the right. (The ORTHO (F8) mode is turned on). 27. In the dimension input of the parallel offset of the wall type the required value: 11-1. 28. To nish type press ENTER, and then press ENTER twice to exit the Construction line command. The desired endless construction line has been created.

25. Drop down the Line command on the Ribbon Home Tab and start the Construction Line command. And then to program prompt touch the inside of the left external wall, watching that vertically (blue or yellow) construction line should be displayed. 29. Select again one of the internal walls, and use the Add Selected command from the Ribbon. ! !

20

Check again on the Properties palette if the Width parameter is 4, the Base height parameter value is 9- 0, and the Justify parameter is set to Center.

31. Without breaking the wall drawing, press the SHIFT to set the Justify to Left. It is also displaying by the cursor and on the Properties palette, as well.

30. From the INTersection of the construction line and the top external wall start to drag down the internal wall, and notice that it is not positioned to the desired side of the construction line. So the Center justication is not the right mode now.

32. Type the length of the wall 2-0 in the dimension input, and then press ENTER.

21

33. Then drag the crosshair to the left and add the length of the wall, which is 1-8. Accept with ENTER, and press one more ENTER to nish the command. 34. Draw the same wall segments to the other side of the space. Use one of the existing walls as a starter, and then the Add Selected > Justify right > 2-0 top > 1-8 left. If this wall segment has already created, feel free to delete the construction line with eraser command.

35. According to one of the two learned methods draw the remained 5 wall segments with the sizes shown in the gure.

36. The following status has to be shown on the screen. 37. Save the drawing by the Save safety reason. ! command for
