In the medical field, die casting applications include dental xray units, EKG machines, ultrasound equipment, portable medical monitors electronically operated hospital beds, and many other different hand-held devises.
The die casting industry is a microcosm of American business with over 55% of the companies having fewer than 100 employees, while our larger firms are world leaders.
In The U.S., die casters contribute over $7 billion to the nations economy annually and provide over 50,000 jobs directly and indirectly.
In metal casting, liquid, molten metal is poured into a mold of the desired shape and then sits and solidifies. After the metal has hardened, it is then ejected from the mold. In most cases, metal casting is preferred because it is a fast way to produce large quantity parts or prototypes. The only downside is that the parts are not as detailed. Detailed parts are better produced through die casting. In die casting, molten metal is physically forced into a high pressured die casting machine. One die half is movable while the other half is attached to a fixed surface. The two halves move apart and the new piece is created. Die casting has adopted the closed loop system. The closed loop system, simply put, is the

system that die casters use to reuse and recycle as much material is possible resulting in very little waste being transported to landfills. During the drilling process, holes are cut through pieces of metal.
The shearing process breaks unwanted material away from the product or part needed. Abrasive machinin g is used to remove small chips of material upon contact with the part. This process dates back to when man first sharpened tools or weapons with a sharp rock. Since then, abrasives have become a widely applied industrial tool with more powerful grinding machines and improved abrasives. Abrasive tools include water jet and laser cutting.
