WIE STAR PROGRAM

STAR PROGRAM REPORT The IEEE Student-Teacher and Research Engineer/Scientist (STAR) Program was developed to address the growing concern that, at a young age, girls are discouraged from careers in mathematics, science, and engineering. This educational outreach program promotes involvement of IEEE members with local junior high and high schools in order to create a positive image of engineering careers. Through a one-to-one interaction between society volunteers and a Student-Teacher Team, STAR's aim is to create a technical support network for teachers and a mentoring program for students. The Women In Engineering STAR PROGRAMs third session was organized in a successful manner on November 17, 2011. Through this session the students of 9th and 10th standard of Government High School, Jameelapet were given a hands on experience on the basics of computer. In the first session of WIE STAR Program, we interacted with the students at Government High School, Jameelapet, to update them with the future prospects of various courses they can opt for. The content covered in this session: Various sectors under 10+2 level education such as MPC, MBiPC, MEC and Multimedia. Scholarships provided for each course. Exams conducted under each sector and the institutions they can enroll themselves. In the second session, we focused on the prominent role they can play as an engineer in bringing equanimity in terms of utilizing the present renewable sources in both urban and rural areas of our country. In the concluding session i.e., Third session of WIE STAR Program, we brought a set of 30 students of 9th and 10th standards to our college and taught them the following content: Topics Definition of computer and its basic components.
