SB54

CAUCUSES: same as current system CONVENTIONS: For a QUALIFIED POLTICAL PARTY*same as current system A registered political party who does NOT meet the requirements of a QUALIFIED POLITICAL PARTY* must follow CMV procedures to put candidates on the ballot

PRIMARIES: For each party, voters select a single candidate to advance to the general election ballot

SIGNATURE PETITIONS: Candidates MUST gather signatures to appear on the general election ballot. Primary needed two or more candidates PRIMARIES: Candidates who gathered sufficient signatures will appear on the primary ballot

SIGNATURE PETITIONS: Candidates may gather signatures to appear on the primary ballot, whether they go through the convention system or not

PRIMARIES: For a QUALIFIED POLITICAL PARTY*, candidates are chosen by the voters of the party AND unaffiliated voters to advance to the general election ballot A registered political party who does NOT meet the requirements of a QUALIFIED POLITICAL PARTY* must follow CMV procedures to put candidates on the ballot

*a QUALIFIED POLITICAL PARTY is a registered political party which allows unaffiliated voters to vote in the primary allows remote voting by delegates to nominate candidates provides procedures for designating alternate delegates does not hold convention before April 1 allows party candidates to use either convention or petitions (or both) to appear on the ballot certifies to the lieutenant governor by September 30 of the odd numbered year that the party intends to nominate candidates
