March 2014 Newsletter

March came in like a Lion!

March has come and gone so quickly. We have been doing so many things this month. Daily devotions by our interns are paying off. The boys' dorm bathroom renovations are in full swing. Our toddlers are really developing. House visits were hard to come by due to rain but we had one great day.

Devo it UP!
Our Tear Fund Interns are simply AWESOME! MonThurs at 6:30am, they are Bible storying with our kids. They began in Gen 1:1& are up to Joseph & his coat of many colors. On Mon & Wed evenings, they do longer Bible storys. This is teaching our kids the importance of a daily quiet time. Also the kids' prayer lives are becoming more personal with God.

"For I was sick and you looked after me... Matthew 25:36
March was a very rainy month. Roads were impassable for several weeks but we asked our church to pray for better weather & the Lord heard our pleas. Tuesday we were able to go on house visits. We met a man named Philani (Pee-lan-ee) who was recovering from medication side effects. After treating him, our intern Sam shared his testimony. I explained John 14:6 to Him and told him Jesus is the only way. Philani prayed to receive Christ! Pray for Philani and our follow up time with him.

Toddler Time
This is Flic our intern with little Thabo (Tah-bo). Our toddlers are getting great learning one-on-one time with our interns. On Mon, Wed, and Friday the interns do a preschool time. The kids color, build with Legos, or learn new songs during this time. Their little personalities are really developing now.

Building a better bathroom

The boys dorm bathroom renovation is in full swing. Thomas met with the contractor and plumber this month. They have completed the tiling of the boys bathroom and replaced the ceiling tiles. Fixtures are in also. April 1-13, a 4 man team from the States comes to do dry wall in the new boy's wing bedrooms.

Baking like Betty Crocker

Inspired by a local volunteer, each Wednesday we take 3 girls home. I teach them how to fix dinner for their future family. We learn to follow a recipe, measure ingredients, set the table, etc... Then the children eat dinner as a part of our family. We make a mean Poppy Seed Chicken Casserole!

An Elizabeth Update
Elizabeth continues to thrive here in South Africa. She is one of the top kids academically in her class. She enjoys volunteering at Tabitha and as a youth volunteer at our church. She helped out this Sunday at Hilton Baptist when we were a few Sunday school teachers short. She is still a joy to hang out with. I am one proud Mom as you can see.

Our Left Wing Man

Jacob has taken up Rugby. He plays the position of left wing man for his school Cowan House. His position is much like a corner back/wing back. So far he is loving it! The Tabitha boys love to go watch his matches. Pray for Jacob as he is in the process of selecting his new high school next year when he starts 8th grade.
