The ADXL335 is a small, thin, low power, complete 3-axis accel- erometer with signal conditioned voltage outputs. The product measures acceleration with a minimum full-scale range of 3 g. !t can measure the static acceleration of gravit" in tiltsensing applications, as well as d"namic acceleration resulting from motion, shoc#, or vi$ration. The user selects the $andwidth of the accelerometer using the %X, %&, and %' capacitors at the X()T, &()T, and '()T pins. *andwidths can $e selected to suit the application, with a range of +.5 ,- to ./++ ,- for the X and & axes, and a range of +.5 ,- to 55+ ,- for the ' axis. The ADXL335 is availa$le in a small, low profile, 0 mm 1 0 mm 1 ..05 mm, ./-lead, plastic lead frame chip scale pac#age 2L3%456L78.

The ADXL335 is a complete 3-axis acceleration measurement s"stem. The ADXL335 has a measurement range of 3 g mini- mum. !t contains a pol"silicon surface-micromachined sensor and signal conditioning circuitr" to implement an open-loop acceleration measurement architecture. The output signals are analog voltages that are proportional to acceleration. The accelerometer can measure the static acceleration of gravit" in tilt-sensing applications as well as d"namic acceleration resulting from motion, shoc#, or vi$ration. The sensor is a pol"silicon surface-micromachined structure $uilt on top of a silicon wafer. 5ol"silicon springs suspend the structure over the surface of the wafer and provide a resistance against acceleration forces. Deflection of the structure is measured using a differential capacitor that consists of independent fixed plates and plates attached to the moving mass. The fixed plates are driven $" .H+G out-of-phase sKuare waves. Acceleration deflects the moving mass and un$alances the differential capacitor resulting in a sensor output whose amplitude is proportional to acceleration. 5hase-sensitive demodulation techniKues are then used to determine the magnitude and direction of the acceleration. The demodulator output is amplified and $rought off-chip through a 3; #L resistor. The user then sets the signal $andwidth of the device $" adding a capacitor. This filtering improves measurement resolution and helps prevent aliasing.

>E'9A=;'AL SE=S<R
The ADXL335 uses a single structure for sensing the X, &, and ' axes. As a result, the three axesS sense directions are highl" orthogonal and have little cross-axis sensitivit". =echanical misalignment of the sensor die to the pac#age is the chief source of cross-axis sensitivit". =echanical misalignment can, of course, $e cali$rated out at the s"stem level.

At C4 E ; C, the self-test response is approximatel" NQ/ mC for the X-axis, MQ/ mC for the &-axis, and N./3 mC for the 'axis. The suppl" current decreases as the suppl" voltage decreases. T"pical current consumption at C4 E 3./ C is 3F5 IA, and t"pi- cal current consumption at C4 E ; C is ;++ IA.
