Superhero Self-portraits!

Teks: 1A, 2A, 4A Objectives: TLW be able to explain the reasoning behind their idea for their self-portrait. TLW be able to determine between a portrait and self-portrait. TLW be able to use correct proportions when depicting a face. TLW be able to identify a color scheme. Activity: The students will be using proportion and color schemes to create a realistic (in the face) super hero self-portrait. Instruction: Introduce the idea of the project: make self-portrait as a superhero. (Pass out pencils, erasers, and index cards) Have the students think-pair-share at the tables thinking of answers for the question What makes a superhero super? Discuss answers, typing them into slideshow as students present ideas (ideally one from each table, if time permits). Pass out Brainstorm worksheets (Have them write their names). Brainstorm superpowers with the students. Explain that you want them to write down three super powers that they would want and for them to choose one and write the reason down. Explain superpower you would want and the reason, so that they understand the process. Have students brainstorm how to show their chosen superpower in a portrait, such as showing invisibility by a hand missing from a sleeve, and choose one to sketch out in their sketchbook. Cover proportions of the face with students by demonstrating drawing a face and having them measure their faces to check the proportions. Hand out worksheet for them to practice facial proportions on. Have students complete their final drawing in colored pencils or chosen media showing their superpower with correct facial proportions. Extension: Have students write a story about their superhero!
