Philosophy of Education
I believe that every child has the potential to bring something special and unique to the world. Each child has the ability to learn and should be given fair opportunities to do so, regardless of their background, race, ethnicity, cultural heritage, gender, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, religion, or any other factor. I believe that it is my job as a teacher to create a learning environment that is safe, caring, and allows students to reach their full potential. Every child deserves the right to learn, and it is my responsibility as a teacher to make sure that my students learn, not only the curriculum, but about themselves and the world around them. I am inherently compassionate, and I feel an internal pull towards helping people and to share my knowledge with others. Children inspire me everyday; to be joyous, to be creative, to be brave, and to live life to the fullest. I am determined to take my passion for teaching, for children, and for helping others to become the best teacher I can possibly be; the teacher that my students deserve. I am completely committed to this goal. I believe that being a teacher means being a lifelong learner and involves constant reflection for growth and learning. I want to share my passion and love of learning with my students and I will always strive to be the best educator I can be. My teaching style consists of using a variety of grouping techniques including whole class, small groups, and independent work. I believe that it is important for students to work with their peers to learn important skills such as conflict resolution, problem solving, collaboration, and how to agree and disagree respectfully. The long-term goals that I have for my students are at the center of everything I do. I want my students to think critically, to be problem solvers, to question, to persevere, to be socially competent, and to have a deep understanding of content. I am the type of teacher who focuses on accomplishments, but is not afraid to push my students with the right amount of scaffolding. I run my classroom, but my students have input as well. I believe that one of the most important aspects of being a teacher is listening. Listen to your students; listen to their fears, their concerns, their interests, their questions, and their stories. I believe that education is the key to success, and my goal for each and every one of students is for them to gain an irreplaceable love and appreciation for learning and education. Instilling this conviction in my students will help them grow up to be accomplished members of society.
