NGCP anticipates power demand growth through grid operation analysis As part of its proactive efforts in maintaining efficient transmission operations, NGCP conducted the Annual Grid Operation Mode Analysis (AGOMA) meeting last January 22. AGOMA is an annual event specifically aimed to review the technical performance of NGCP. Among the issues discussed were the system operators 2013 transmission service performance, incoming power plants and grid connections, update on current transmission projects, and operational targets for 2014. Majority of NGCPs performance indicators is also discussed during the event to determine how it fared in 2013 in managing the Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao grids. NGCPs System Operations officers and personnel came in full force to discuss and present 2104s demand forecast and power production prediction which came from the Department of Energys (DOE) Power Development Plan (PDP). The PDP has been NGCPs basis on how much additional capacity it needs to install in its substations and on what transmission lines need to be constructed or reinforced. Other topics presented were the future plans on how to improve grid security, power dispatching, and customer service. AGOMA is an avenue to determine the grids needs, particularly in accommodating incoming generation plants and meeting the N-1 contingency requirement of the Philippine Grid Code. This meeting, along with other NGCP initiatives, points towards assuring our customers and the public that the grid is ready for the ever-increasing power demand of the country, NGCP Spokesperson Atty. Cynthia D. Perez-Alabanza said. NGCP is a privately owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the countrys power grid. It transmits high-voltage electricity through power superhighways that include the interconnected system of transmission lines, towers, substations, and related assets. NGCP regularly conducts performance reviews to enhance the reliability and quality of electricity delivered to customers. ###
