VE Mr.________ IBChemistry 04February2014 EffectofTemperatureonRateofReactionbetweenHydrochloricAcidandSolidMagnesium Aim:Toinvestigatehowchangingthetemperatureofthehydrochloricacidinareactionbetweenhydrochloric acidandmagnesiumwillaffecttherateofreaction. ResearchQuestion:Howdoesthetemperatureofhydrochloricacidaffecttherateofreactionbetween hydrochloricacidandmagnesium? Hypothesis:Asthetemperatureofhydrochloricacidincreases,theparticlesofthehydrochloricacidwill absorbmoreenergy,makingthemmovemorequicklyandhavinggreaterenergy.Thiswillresultinmore particlescollidingwiththemagnesiumparticleswithsufficientkineticenergygreaterthantheactivation energy.Also,therewillbemorefrequenteffectivecollisionsbecauseoftheparticlesmovingatagreater speed.Therefore,wepredictthattherateofreactionwillbeincreasedasaresultofthekineticenergyof theseparticlesbeingincreasedandtherebeingmorefrequenteffectivecollisionsandtherewillbeaquicker rateofreaction.
