In class we learned that Stagecoach was made during the greatest period in film history from 1939-1941. ther films made during the same time include Citizen Kane!

Gone With The Wind! and The Wizard of Oz. "he director of Stagecoach! John #ord! won four $est directing %cademy %wards! though none for a western. %t the time westerns were no longer popular! $ut Stagecoach changed that. John &ayne! $orn 'arion 'orrison! was considered a ( actor! $ut after Stagecoach his popularity s)yroc)eted him into the mainstream. John &ayne recei*ed his only %cademy %ward 3+ years after Stagecoach for his role in True Grit. John #ord and John &ayne colla$orated on ,4 films together throughout $oth of their careers. Stagecoach won two %cademy %wards- one for $est score and the other for $est supporting actor! "homas 'itchell.

John #ord was the son of two Irish immigrants. #ord was a 7lansman in 8.&. 9riffith6s Birth of a Nation. In a 1,-month period during 1939 John #ord directed four critically acclaimed films! 3. %pply the article to the film watched in class. %fter reading the article /'onument 0alley #ilmma)ing and 'yth1 $y Joe 2entner I ha*e a new appreciation for 'onument 0alley. I found it interesting that Stagecoach was not actually the first film to use it as a location! as it is insinuated. "he impact 'onument 0alley had on John #ord was also immense for him to shoot nine different films there. 'onument 0alley also had a huge impact in <ollywood too! as many other films were filmed there including Bac( to the *uture +art ,. John &ayne was the o$*ious star $ut according to 2entner / Stagecoach also introduced another star? 'onument 0alley1. :o audience can watch Stagecoach without $eing in awe of the powerful images of the scenery. 4. &rite a critical analysis of the film.

Stagecoach was an immensely impactful film. #irst of all it ga*e John &ayne his rise to superstardom. John &ayne6s name is as %merican as apple pie! and that is owed! at least in part! to his role as Ringo 7id in Stagecoach. John #ord deser*es a lot of credit for his casting of John &ayne! who was not particularly popular $efore. I appreciate John &ayne6s humility in appearing in any John #ord made film that was as)ed of him post Stagecoach. It was a $it amusing to learn that today John #ord is $est )nown for his westerns $ut none of his four $est director wins were for his wor) on a western. "he use of 'onument 0alley still capti*ates audiences in mo*ies today! so its grandeur at the time in 1939 cannot $e o*erstated. "he single greatest thing that Stagecoach achie*ed though was its re*itali.ation of the western genre. Just li)e John &ayne! $efore Stagecoach westerns were la$eled as ( films. (ut after Stagecoach westerns $ecame immensely popular. &esterns not only dominated <ollywood $ut also tele*ision too. It was not until the early 19B+6s that westerns really fell out of popularity again! $ut a forty-year run is ama.ing. I especially enCoyed the redemption of Ringo 7id in the end when he outdueled the three 5lummer $rothers! and then =urly let him and his fiancD ride of into the sunset. =ountless other mo*ies ha*e tried to attempt a similar storyline! the stagecoach may ha*e e*ol*ed into a $us or airplane $ut the plot remains mostly intact.
