REPORT ON FARID SYAZWAN MICROTEACHING BY: MOHAMAD AZMAN KAMARUDIN I had observed Farid Syazwan Bin Nordin for

the microteaching session on 10th March 2014. He conducted the practice stage for a grammar lesson plan for Year 4 and the topic is, Be Safe. Based on my observation, he had an intermediate level of confidence while conducting the microteaching. Nevertheless, he still need to boost up his self-esteem and motivate himself to build up his confidence when speaking. He needs to widen his vocabulary bank in order to have a clear and understandable pronunciation while speaking. He had a very good voice projection which is vital for a teacher to have in class, so that pupils can understand the instructions given by the teacher loud and clear. In terms of fluency, he was fluent but with few minor error while speaking. He also need to stress upon the listed words and vocabularies that he want to use. The link between the previous stage and the stage that he is conducting is relatable. Pupils able to grasp what the previous stage are all about, when the link between both stages is establish the lesson can be conduct smoothly. With the help of multifunctional and interactive teaching aids he was able to conduct the microteaching in a good manner. Pupils and teacher interaction are made during the lesson which will encourage the pupils to learn. Suitability of the conducted stage is also being considered during my observation, I find that the lesson during practice stage is suitable and compatible with the objective stated in the lesson plan. Farid was able to match the lesson with lesson plan objective which is essential in order to ensure the lesson is good enough to be use in a real classroom. Despite his success in conducting and completing the microteaching, he does have weaknesses. The most notable error was, the term he used to call the pupils. Instead of using boys which is the correct British term he used guys which is an American term. He needs to use British term more often instead of an American term because our English Language is based on British and not American. In addition, the learning is a bit teacher centred, and pupils doesnt have much chance to do any high order thinking. Although the activity conducted is interesting it is somehow not interactive for the pupils. Teacher should consider to implement an activity where pupils feel challenged to complete a task and enjoy completing it.

Other than that, the major issue which can be seen clearly during the microteaching was, the instructions that he used. It is the usual problem faced by a new teacher, where they tend to be overly ambitious during their teaching, they gave out too many instructions at the same time that can be confusing for pupils to understand. As an idea to overcome this matter, Farid could possibly give out the instruction in a much simpler manner. Teaching aids he has prepared had not been exploited to the fullest. It is a loss not to fully exploit what he had prepared since it is quite handy and useful for the lesson he had planned. Feedback also should be provided at the end of every lesson, the lack of feedback provided by teacher could lead to confusion among pupils. Overall, the flow of his microteaching was conducted smoothly and properly. He managed to grab his pupils attention and deliver the content very well. He might be able to do better in the future if he try a little bit harder.
