Decision to attend: 60% of students decided to attend Missouri State University, while attending their community college. 29% knew before they started community college that they would transfer to Missouri State. Of the things that students considered when looking at a four-year institution, cost was the most influential factor with 64% answering that it was Extremely Important and 24.5% answering that it was Very Important. 71% of respondents said that Missouri State ranked better than other institutions in terms of cost 66% of respondents answered that they were Very Satisfied with their decision to transfer to Missouri State University

Information and technology for college selection: Respondents seemed to find the university website a good resource for answering their questions about transferring, 29% found the website Extremely Helpful and 48% found it to be Very Helpful. Only 12% of respondents said that there were things that they needed that were not on the website Most students found the online transfer orientation to be helpful, 32% strongly agreed that it was helpful, while 46% moderately agreed

Other: Our transfer students feel connected to Missouri State, 31% responded that they strongly agreed with that statement, and 41% moderately agreed Positive experiences in transferring reported by students included: helpful Admissions staff, helpful Financial Aid staff, and ease of process Negative experiences in transferring reported by students included: confusion about scholarships, issues with credits, and problems with their academic advisors

Comparison to fall 2011 freshman non-honors survey: There were 7 more respondents in 2012 than in 2011. There were 3 more students who identified as American Indian/Alaskan Native, 1 more student identified as Asian. Conversely, we had 1 less student identify as African American and 1 less student identify as Hispanic/Latino. The number of students who were over the age of 30 more than doubled, 11 in 2011 compared to 23 in 2012. There was a 5% decrease in students who considered another institution than Missouri State. There was an 11% increase in students who rated Missouri State University as better than other institutions when it came to cost The number of students who reside on campus increased by 4%. More students found the online orientation helpful, there was a 9% increase in the students who strongly agreed and a 6% increase in the students who moderately agreed

Additional suggestions: I would be interested in seeing some more demographic information. I would be interested to see what states students are from. It would also be more inclusive to have more options than just male and female when asking a students gender. It would also be interesting to see how many of our students self-identify as a sexual orientation other than heterosexual, so a question that asks that would be useful.
