1. Why should we plant native flora in the schoolyard?

List three cause and effect relationships involving plants in our schoolyard? YOU MUST WRITE IN COMPLETE SENTENCES! Student Responses: It makes the school more presentable. If we have more plants it makes the school yard pretty. If the schoolyard is pretty we will have more students. If we have more students we will be one of the top school. We should plant native flora cause they grow faster. Some plants are bigger than others, which means that they can get crushed. If we plant the native flora it will make our school beautiful. It will bring some color out because our school is dull. It will attract people. We should plant native flora because plants give out oxygen and suck in useless gases such as carbon dioxide. This will help us breathe better. Planting native plants will stop the runoff We should plant native flora because they originated here so if we get rid of them they will be gone. We should plant native flora so we can have a wide variety of trees and plants. It also makes the school look nice. We should plant native flora in our schoolyard to make it more appealing. 1.We can because our surroundings are different and wet. 2. We could combine the flowers together by placing them next to each other to create other breeds of flowers 3.If we have plants our air will be more clean Planting native flowers would help pollination and to beautify our land. We shouldn't plant native flora plants in our school garden because some of those plants may get destroyed. The environment or way people handle it can destroy the way of the plant processes. We should plant native flora in our schoolyard because there isn't enough of them anymore. They may become extinct. Planting native flora will keep our school stay green. Without native species, invasive species would replace native flora. Ultimately causing a breakdown of the food chain.

2. Describe the background of your experiment. What did you plant? When did you plant it? Why did you plant it? YOU MUST WRITE IN COMPLETE SENTENCES! Student Responses: We planted purple Coneflowers and black eye Susans two weeks ago on December 7. The black eye Susans grew and some the purple coneflower did not grow. We planted lots of flowers in the schoolyard. The background looks like it had grown and more soil had been used. We planted Purple Corn Flour and Black Eyed Susan. We planted to see which one would grow faster and largest. We planted Black Eyed Susans and Purple Cone Flowers. We planted them on December 7th. It is now two weeks. We planted the plants to see how fast they would grow and which one finished first. The black-eyed Susan grew faster. We think it grew faster because there was a lot of little tiny seeds and the purple coneflower grow slower because it had bigger seeds. We are trying to determine the growth rate of the plants and form a hypothesis. The background of the experiment was we planted a native flora. We planted the native flora two whole weeks ago. We planted this plant so that we could put it near the drainage areas of the garden to prevent rainoff. We planted native species. We planted the seeds a couple months ago. We planted it to replenish the plant species. We planted a native flora. We planted it about a month ago. We planted it to do an experiment to see which plant would grow faster regular soil or miracle grow. 3. Describe your experimental design. How did you plant your seeds? What was your process? How did you plant your seeds? YOU MUST WRITE IN COMPLETE SENTENCES! Student Responses: The design of the experiment is just soil water and some stuff to make it grow faster. First we put in 4 tablespoons of soil. Then we sprinkled the seeds and separated the cups and labeled them. After that we sprinkled one-teaspoon "dirt tea". We used soil, seeds and fertilizer. We put the seeds in equally for the experiment. We used the same amount of water and sunlight so we could find out witch flower would grow faster

We scattered them in soil that was in a plastic cup. We put them on the windowsill and watered them weekly. Only the Black Eyed Susan flowers grew. We dug a hole, put the seeds in, and then put the seeds in the ground, by putting back the soil. We put the plant seeds on top of the soil and the seeds sunk down in the soil and started to grow. The process of the planting of the seeds we had soil and put the seeds on top of the soil and then we put the nutrient water that helps it grow. We used a product called Miracle Grow and compared it to regular soil with regards to the growth of the seedlings. 4. What was your hypothesis? What did you predict was going to happen? Why? YOU MUST WRITE IN COMPLETE SENTENCES! Student responses: My hypothesis was that the pinecone flower would grow faster but I was wrong. I predicted that the pinecone flower would grow faster cause the seeds were bigger. I think the Black-Eyed Susans are going to grow faster. The seeds are smaller than the Pinecone Flowers so they will germinate faster, even though they were given the same amount of nutrients. Our hypothesis was that the purple coneflower would grow faster because there were more seeds in the soil. Our hypothesis is that the miracle grow seedlings will grow faster, because it holds extra nutrients in the soil that would add to the flowers. My hypothesis was that the regular soil would grow faster. Miracle grow is fake soil that doesn't make anything grow faster. I predicted that the natural soil would help the plant grow faster other than the artificial soil. My hypothesis was that I think the miracle grow will grow faster because it has more nutrients which will help the plant grow faster. 5. What were your variables? What were you comparing? How were they alike? How were they different? YOU MUST WRITE IN COMPLETE SENTENCES! Student Responses: We were comparing the pine coneflower and the black eyed susan. I dont think that they are alike. They both need water to grow. However, one grew and the other one didn't.

Our variables were the water, soil, seeds, and sunlight. We were comparing the growth of Black Eyed Susans and Purple Cone Flowers to see which one grew faster. We compared these for the experiment. They were alike because they were plants. Our variables are the water, soil, and adjustment to temperature We are comparing black-eyed Susan plants to Pinecone flower. The independent variable is the time we are giving the plants to grow; the dependant variable is the growth of the plants for the time given. The independent variable was the plant without coffee in its soil, and the dependent variable was the coffee. We were comparing the growth of the plants. They both were put in soil. The non-coffee plant seems to have sprouted 1st. The variables were miracle growth and soil from the schoolyard. We were comparing to see which one of them would make the seeds grow faster The variables are the soil. We are comparing the 2 different types of soil. 6. Mr Burns is growing the seeds, without soil! What do you think about that? Write 3 predictions and explain why! YOU MUST WRITE IN COMPLETE SENTENCES! Student Responses: They wont grow without soil the roots need to grow in soil. I do not think that his flower is going to grow. I think this because every flower needs soil, water, and sunlight. It is impossible to grow a flower without soil. I really don't think they will strive. First of all, I believe you need soil for the roots to stay in place. The roots will DIE. That the plant could potentially grow if provided with the right amount of sun and water. I predict that the seeds will grow faster. I predict that the seeds would sprout as long as they had water. I predict that maybe the seeds would sprout. I think it will grow a little bet but not much. It matters what he is using. The seeds may have trouble growing since the water may drain the seeds of nutrients, since the water is very soluble. I think if there is still water then it will grow because all a plant needs sun light water to grow. I think that it would eventually die because they are under a light and they have heating balls to help them grow.

The plant will not grow because you need water to grow plant. I think ours would grow faster because we are using sunlight. He is using a light. I think the seeds will grow but not as fast as ours. The seeds need water but plants need more than water to survive. I think that it wont work because living things need water to survive, including flowers. His plants wont grow. They will eventually die because they are not getting nutrients. 7. What has happened so far? Was your hypothesis accurate? Why do you think that happened? Explain what happened. Describe the growth rate, so far! YOU MUST WRITE IN COMPLETE SENTENCES! Student Responses: The plants haven't grown. Our hypothesis was incorrect because we haven't seen any growth. The plants didn't get enough light or used too much water and we didn't follow direction. The plant still didn't grow so I predicted that the plant won't grow anymore and we might have to start over. I think that because we goof off and we didn't plant it right. The plant did not grow. The hypothesis was wrong because the plant did not grow. The non-coffee cup's plants have sprouted. The coffee seems to have hindered the plant's growth. My hypothesis was accurate because the miracle grow is helping the plant grow faster because the miracle grow has more food and nutrients. The growth rate of the miracle grow grew bigger and faster. No my hypothesis was wrong because they are both growing at the same rate. The plants have grown because the plants were getting water and sunlight. Unlike Mr. Burns plants, the cup A is growing slowly but surely and cup B is keeping up with Cup A. 8. What do you predict is going to happen with your plants next? Why? YOU MUST WRITE IN COMPLETE SENTENCES! Student responses: I think that the plants will grow more and they will start looking different. The plants growth depends on us following direction. I think that the plant with the coffee will get moldy and the other one will grow. The non-coffee cup's plants will probably start to grow.

I think the plants are going to catch up to each other. The plants in the regular soil will grow and get bigger. I think the plants will grow more. They will get more sunlight and water to grow. 9. What questions would like answered about your experiment? What else would you like to know? Student responses: I would like to know why the purple coneflower grew first. Why didnt my plant grow? What could I have done better? What could I do differently? Why would the seeds grow without soil? What happens if the plants run out of nutrients? What will happen next? How tall will it grow.
