Improved varieties of wheat - Kudrat 9, 7 & 11

Prakash Singh Raghuvanshi, 47 years, is a farmer by profession and studied up to ninth standard. Shri Raghuvanshi has a total of 3.5-acres of land and he is cultivating wheat, paddy, mustard and pigeon pea. He has developed a numbers of improved varieties of wheat, paddy, mustards and pigeon pea trough simple selection breeding method. Three varieties of wheat had developed by simple selection viz. kudrat 9, kudrat 7 and kudrat 11. The varieties have good grain yield of 55 to 60q/ha, 50 to 60 q/ha and 55 to 65q/ha with an average good protein contain is 12 to 14%. These are also resistance to major insect-pest and diseases as compare to existing variety. Experimental trials conducted for wheat varieties in CSUAT-Kanpur indicates that the varieties developed by the farmer are very high yielding, better quality and resistant to major diseases and pests. They also bear higher number of tillers; lengthy spikes; more number of seeds per spike; robust stem and high protein content.
