Course Description: The course aims to help students develop an understanding of the behavior of individuals and groups inside organizations. This in turn will help them better understand and appreciate individual, interpersonal, and group processes for increased effectiveness both within and outside of organizations. The course also aims to develop an understanding of the nature, functioning and design of organization as social collectivities. The course also examines the reciprocal relationship between the organizational characteristics (for example: structure, strategies, systems etc.) and managerial behavior. It helps develop theoretical and practical insights and problem-solving capabilities for effectively managing the organizational processes. Learning Outcomes: (After completing the course the student will be able to improve their preparedness and effectiveness at personal, interpersonal, and managerial levels in the banking setting) 1. Understand what organizations, how they function, and how managers need to respond in order to remain effective 2. Explain the concepts related to individual behaviors including perception, attribution, personality, attitudes, and motivation 3. Identify the basics of interpersonal skills, explain differences in interpersonal styles and orientations, and learn how effective relationships can be created proactively 4. Understand the various types of groups and teams, how groups are formed, explore principles of group dynamics and learn to effectively manage team performance 5. Understand the meaning, levels, and sources of conflict, various styles of dealing with conflict, and utilize different approaches to negotiation

6. Understand the building blocks of organizational structure and design , explore how the external environment, the nature of the industry and globalization effect forms of organizations 7. Understand the meaning and significance of the concepts of organizational culture and climate, how to recognize culture in an organization, learn how effective culture and climate can be created Teaching Methodology: Brief lectures, group exercises, case studies, simulations, role play, and class discussions. The course will be taught primarily through the use of cases and application of OB theories, concepts, models, etc. Student teams will take turn to present case analysis on a regular basis. Performance Standards: Timely submission of assignments and prior reading of cases is required. Class Etiquettes and Attendance Policy: Students are required to maintain a professional environment in the class at all time which means speaking one person at a time, listening and showing respect for others contributions and comments, not doing other work or using the laptop while students are presenting cases, refraining from sending text messages, keeping private conversations to the minimum, and finally, regular attendance and participation. A full attendance is expected from all students. Any more than 2 hours of absence in the trimester will be subject to deduction of participation points. Make-Up Exams: Make up exams and extension on assignments will only be granted under extenuating circumstances. It is the students responsibility to obtain permission from the instructor if an exam has to be rescheduled. All make-ups will be given in the week immediately following the exam week. Grading Policy: The course grade will be a composite of marks obtained in individual components of the assessment which will be then converted in a letter grade ranging as per the University polices. No negotiations on grades will be entertained by the instructor.

Team Research Assignment: Organizational Behavior

Description of the Project: The class will be divided into teams of 8 persons and each team will be responsible for preparing a research project based on outside scholarly readings. The assignment will be due three weeks prior to the end of term. Each team will prepare a 20 minute presentation which will be scheduled during two weeks prior to the Final exam. The project is organized in a format to teaching students how to conduct academic research, write a concise and clear report, and to learn to work in teams. A second major objective of the project is to get students to understand the widespread nature of OB issues and how they manifest themselves in workplaces. Steps to be followed in completing the Project: --The team members will collectively decide on a team topic which broadly falls into the scope of OB course for research --Each individual member of the team will search, print and read at least three scholarly articles retrieved from the Ebsco or Jstore data base available through NU Library --Team members will meet and discuss their readings and decide upon a division of labor for preparing the written report as well as presentation Format of the Report (It must have the following sections): 1. A Title page with names of all team members 2. Introduction introduce your topic, how is it significant to effective organizational behavior 3. Identify 7-8 major themes discuss 7 to 8 major themes that emerged in your literature review 4. Identify 5 major theories name and discuss at least 5 major theories that were mentioned or implied in your literature which were also covered in the text by Parikh and Gupta 5. How has the project aided in increasing your knowledge and understanding of OB and how will you use this knowledge to increase your effectiveness as a manager in a bank 6. Prepare a separate sheet with bibliography, including the Web sources that your team has actually used in conducting the assignment. Citations must be provided using APA style.

Format of the Presentation (Must have the same sections as the written report): --Prepare a 20 minute Power Point presentation using the same format as the written report

Note: I am available to further explain the assignment to you, help you with any materials you do not understand, and discuss anything related to the class. Note 2: The written assignment must be submitted on the Moodle by uploading your text files. Students are expected to follow the format and timeline as outlined.
