Zak Gets a New Bike

By Ms. Monideepa Sharma

ak the Bear was walking to school one hot sunny summer afternoon. It was a scorching day, and Zak felt all the energy drain out of him. Another half hour of brisk walking would get him to school. The sun blazed and Zak marched on, feeling more than a little sorry for himself. Just as he walked into a slightly wooded area, his eyes chanced upon an amazing sight. Resting against a lone tree was a gleaming black bicycle. It looked brand new and there was no one in sight! Zak eagerly walked towards the bike for a closer look. It was his lucky day,

thought Zak, jumping up and down in delight. Since the bike seemed to belong to no one, should I just take it? Zak wondered. He stood there for a bit, undecided, but then he gave in to both greed and need. With a hoop of pure joy, he jumped on the bike and blazed his way to school at top speed. Halfway there, he stopped his bike and stopped to think. What if the bike belonged to someone at school, he thought! He changed course and made his way back homewards. Once there, he quickly found a can of red paint

lying in the basement and gave the bike a new coat of paint. He stood back and admired his handiwork. Now the bike was truly his. When Zak's mom Coco asked him about the bike, he mumbled that he had borrowed it for a couple of days. Zak felt heavy with guilt as he never lied to his mother. It is true, he thought grimly, to hide one lie, one had to lie many more times. The next morning, Zak rode grandly to school on his gleaming red bike. Soon his friends surrounded him and heaped him with many compliments. What a beauty! exclaimed Mango the Monkey. "May I have a quick ride? You are so lucky, sighed Lula the Goat. I have to walk to school every day! Your bike is just so beautiful, sighed Buttercup, the butterfly, admiringly. Though Zak grinned widely, he felt sick with fear and guilt. What if everyone found out that the bike was not his, but was in fact stolen property! Zak decided to play truant from school the next day. He left home at his usual time, waving a cheery bye to his mother Coco. Instead of heading to school, he rode around the town on his shiny bike. He had the most amazing day, riding his bike quickly, then slowly and then trying to spin a wheelie, balancing the bike on just the back wheel. Before he knew it, he crashed on the road with a big thud, and hit his head on the hard pavement. His head spun and he was hurt all

over and huge tears of agony rolled down his chubby cheeks. A crowd gathered around him. Lets take him to the hospital, said Bizoo the Deer. Lets help him stand up, said Elmo the Cat. Lets call his home, said Felix the Dog. Zak trembled with fear. What would his mom say if she found out that he was in fact loitering around instead of being at school? Thats Zak, said Gigi the Crow, I know him; I will go get his mother. Before Zak could say anything, the crow flew off to go fetch Zaks mother. Zak had never seen his mother so angry. She was livid when she saw Zak fallen by the side walk and glared at him.

hands with joy. This is awesome! But what about the bike you were riding? Who did that belong to? asked Muff. I found it parked in the woods, said Zak. And you just took it? said Spark, deeply shocked.
KEITH

Why are you not at school? she asked for the hundredth time. Zak stayed mum. And tell me who lent you this bike; I want to have a word with him too. Zak had no answers and all he did was cry. He was covered with bruises and hurt all over. To top that, he felt ashamed that he had lied to his mother and was laden with guilt now that the bike was smashed. His beautiful day of adventure had turned into a nightmare. While Zak was resting at home, all his friends from the neighbourhood and school visited him. Muff the Squirrel, Spark the Sparrow and Tux the Dog all visited him. They also had a special gift for Zak, to make him feel better. We heard your bike was smashed, said Muff. So we all contributed from our pocket money and collected a tidy sum. Having said that, Spark the sparrow and Tux the dog rolled a brand new bike into Zaks room. Zak sat up in bed, his eyes sparkling! The bike was a gleaming red, brand new and beautiful. Wow, guys, exclaimed Zak, clapping his

Zak looked shamefaced, Yes, I know better now. And you should not loiter here and there during school hours. Your classes are important! said Coco, his mother, as she strolled into the room. I am sorry, I have now learnt my lesson, said Zak. Its ok, Zak, said his friends in unison. We all make mistakes and we learn from them. I have learnt my lesson the hard way, said Zak. I will never bunk classes again and I will not take what is not mine, and if I see abandoned bags or vehicles, I will tell my parents about it! See you at school tomorrow, said his friends as they were leaving. Though Zak had had an accident that day, and hurt all over, he couldnt have had a better day. He looked forward to going to school on his super brand new bike!

The Clever Maiden

By Guruprasad Batni ong ago, in ancient India, there lived a poor farmer called Somadutta in a village Brahmagiri, on the banks of the Ganga. Somaduttas wife had passed away at a young age, leaving behind a daughter Saraswati. The simple and humble Somadutta was of a helpful nature, and

www.AndhraEbooks.com www.AndhraEbooks.com
was highly respected in the village. But Somadutta was a worried man. His small piece of land just yielded enough crops to sustain him and his daughter. But what about the future and Saraswatis marriage.? Saraswati grew up into a pretty young girl and was the envy of every family in the village. Not only was she beautiful, but she was also intelligent, talented, and helped the villagers with various odd jobs. Boys and men of various ages secretly desired Saraswati and wanted to marry her. One among them was Chatura Verma, the wicked landlord of the village. Verma was already a married man and had a daughter as old as Saraswati. Knowing that his chances of marrying Saraswati were slim, Verma devised a clever plan to acquire her. In the guise of helping Somadutta, Verma lent Somadutta money, time and again, without charging interest. The innocent and gullible Somadutta assured Verma every time that he would repay him soon. Verma, on his part, kept telling Somadutta that there was no hurry to repay, and he could take his own sweet time. Just when the loans had accumulated to such an extent that it was beyond Somaduttas capacity to repay, Verma demanded all the money back. A shocked and distressed Somadutta pleaded with Verma for more time to repay. Verma flatly refused and called for the village Panchayat to mediate and help recover his money. The village elders heard both the parties, but could not make up their minds. While they felt sorry for Somadutta, they did not want to antagonize the rich Verma. Being aware of this, the wily Verma suggested a plan. He pointed out to a heap of black and white stones lying around. He offered to put a black and a white stone in a bag, shake them up and ask Saraswati to pick one of them. If she picked the white one, her fathers loans would be written off. And if she picked the black one, the loans would still be written off, but she would have to marry Verma. The entire village was shocked by Vermas insolence, even as Somadutta protested strongly against it. To his dismay, Saraswati turned to him and said Father, since there is no other alternative, we should agree to this plan. Let us see what the future holds for me. While Somadutta continued to protest, a delighted Verma grinned shamelessly. Verma led the elders, Somadutta and Saraswati to a heap of stones,

www.AndhraEbooks.com www.AndhraEbooks.com
looking for a black and white one. However, at the right moment when no one was watching, Verma picked up two black stones and dropped them into the bag quickly. Although Saraswati noticed this, there was nothing she could do about it. Verma could always come up with a new trick. She closed her eyes, searching for some idea, some clue, something that could defeat Vermas plans. After a few minutes, she opened her eyes. Apparently, she too had a trick up her sleeve, as there was a twinkle in her eyes now. Saraswati picked up one of the stones from the bag, and as if by slip of the hand dropped it on the ground quickly, among the heap of stones. Oh oh, how clumsy of me, she exclaimed! Verma, who had turned red with anger, dropped to his knees and rummaged through the heap, looking for the stone. Villagers scrambled around trying to help Verma. But how could one be sure which was the stone Saraswati had dropped? Saraswati then offered a solution. Why are we struggling so much, my dear villagers? she asked. All we have to do is to look into the bag again. If there is a white stone there, I obviously would have picked up a black one. And if there is a black one behind, I obviously picked up a white one! So simple, right? The villagers applauded, relieved that they had found a simple solution to what was becoming a puzzle. Verma looked shocked, and Somadutta was pale. Saraswati quickly grabbed the bag from Vermas hand and handed it over to the village headman. The headman put his hand

into the bag to retrieve the stone inside. Oh, this is black! he exclaimed. Its quite clear then that Saraswati had picked up a white stone earlier. The matter is closed then! The villagers, who were fond of Saraswati and her father, and hated Verma, howled in delight. Saraswati hugged her father, who by now had tears streaming down his cheeks. Saraswati gave a final look at Verma, and walked away holding her fathers hands. Verma looked like he had seen a ghost. For the rest of his life, Verma was a bitter and grumpy man, and spoke very little. Whether he admitted it or not, he had understood a big lesson in life, on that fateful day: One must think twice before doing something cunning. Because sometimes, ones own trick can be played back to them!

Probe Explorer
By Surya Narayan Maurya

ll the planets, from Mercury to Neptune, were joyously waiting. Probe Explorer spacecraft from Earth was swiftly approaching them. Earth had already told them that Probe had a powerful camera installed in it. Probe, take my picture first. Only I have such a huge and beautiful ring, Saturn said, flaunting its spectacular ring. I am the brightest planet of the solar system, so take my picture first, Venus piped in with excitement. Look Probe, I am the largest planet of the solar system, so I should be photographed first, Jupiter came up with his own reason. The other planets were not to be left behind in the race. They too praised their own unique qualities and asked it to take their snap. Hey, stop all this nonsense. I am not able to do my work properly, Probe was getting perturbed by the irrational behaviour of the planets. Who is stopping you from doing your work? We just want ourselves photographed, said Mercury, who had been quiet until now. Look, I have been sent to capture pictures of stars and galaxies only, Probe explained and began taking pictures of a faraway star. Probe is right. In the last 100 years, many pictures of you all have been taken. Even a small child can search for your image on the Internet these days. Let Probe do its job, Earth defended Probes act.
June (First) 2012

All the planets agreed to what Earth said and continued to revolve around the sun in their orbits. Probe was seriously immersed in his work. It had already clicked a galaxy and now had spotted a shining star. It set the focus to click a picture of that star when a huge mass came in front and hid the star. The camera clicked the picture of that mass instead of the star. Hey, this seems to be something new, Probe was pleasantly surprised and instructed his computer HTX 8311. HTX, send radio waves towards that mass and send all the data to the space centre on the Earth. If we have made a new discovery, then our names will be etched in history for the generations to come. HTX collected all the data with a lightning speed, but had worry on its face the very next moment. What is it, HTX? Why are you looking anxious? Probe asked. Probe, I have calculated the data of that rock and And what does your calculation say? Probe interrupted HTX before it could complete its sentence. This huge rock is going to collide with the Earth after 39 hours. As it will come closer to the Earth, its speed will escalate, and the collision will happen in still less time, HTX elaborated. Now it was Probes turn to get tense. Time is running short. HTX, dont send any

collide with the small planets, it will break down to pieces, Mercury said angrily. No, Mercury, the asteroids are so tiny in comparison to the rock that they wont affect the rock. Nonetheless, your suggestion is good. If Jupiter and Mars block the way of that rock, it will break down. However, it is difficult to ascertain the impact of that collision on these two, HTX said. We dont care what would happen to us. Earth is our dear sister. If we can help in any way, then well be very happy, Mars nodded in agreement at Jupiters words. These planets cant come in the way of that rock, but we can, HTX said showing the graph.

information regarding this rock to the space centre, else the entire world will panic. First decide whether this rock will really collide with the earth. Probe, I am a supercomputer. This rock is definitely approaching the Earth. You can see its graph if you wish. Probe saw the rocks orbit graph and was convinced. Oh! This will certainly collide with the Earth. When Probe called all the planets and told them everything. They were stunned. Earth was the worst hit by this news. Of all the planets, only Earth has life on it. If it is destroyed, our entire solar system would become lifeless, Saturn said. Why are you saying such negative things already? The rock is still far away. It is near Uranuss orbit. It has to cross Jupiters orbit and the asteroid belt. When that rock will

KEITH

What? All the planets, along with Probe, were astounded. Unless we collide with the massive rock in high speed, we wont be able to do anything to it. There is still some fuel left in the fuel tank. The energy from the solar panels can be used to burn the fuel so we can give a sideway collision to the rock. If we are successful in changing the route of the rock by even a one degree angle, then it will take a detour from the Earth, HTX explained in detail. Now there was a ray of hope. Probe took the picture of that shining star which he had been trying to take at first. Then he turned towards the planets. Friends, forgive me. I had refused to click your pictures. Saturn, pose with your ring and give a nice smile. I have to send a beautiful picture to the space centre, Probe said, setting the focus of its camera again. After that, all the planets got clicked one-byone. Probe sent all the pictures to the space centre and then HTX sent the solar energy to the fuel tank. As expected, the asteroid belt couldnt harm the rock. It had crossed the orbit of Mars and was coming towards the Earth with alarming momentum. After exactly 10 minutes, Probe Explorer collided with the rock with a very high pace and broke into bits. The rock moved from its trajectory by an angle of 5 degrees and moved away from the Earth. The courage and sacrifice of the Probe Explorer had saved the Earth from impending doom, protecting the lives of its inhabitants.

eha loved to visit her maternal grandmothers house during her vacations. Feasting on delicious food prepared by Granny, playing and sleeping; these were the only activities which formed a part of her daily routine there. Last year her Uncle had gotten married during her vacation. So this year Neha was excited to spend her holidays with her new Aunt. Wow, it would be great fun! She was thinking. Her younger brother Bholu was also eager to visit Grannys house in anticipation of the fun they would have there. The day arrived when they boarded the train which moved speedily towards the serene mountains of Dehradoon. Bholu and Neha were happy to meet their new Aunt. And they had heard from Mom that she was an expert in making scrumptious pizzas and burgers! Bholu was thinking of asking Aunt to make noodles for him as they were his

weakness. Both brother and sister had their mind stuck on mouth-watering delicacies made by their Aunt. Meanwhile, their Mom took out poori and potato vegetable for them to eat. Bholu made a bad face at the look of the food. Mom, you are so old-fashioned! Neha spoke out her thoughts. Couldnt you bring pizzas for us? Nehas Mom smiled sheepishly, We dont get ingredients for pizza to prepare it in our city. They have the ingredients in Dehradoon. It was all fun in Grannys house. Bholu and Neha had a sound sleep at night. Now they had the entire days to themselves. They would sleep until late and then bother their Aunt and Granny the whole day with their endless demands. Nehas Mom would sleep after having a meal, but Aunt would either paint or do beautiful crochet work on clothes. Mom would ask her to sleep, but Granny would interrupt by saying, You sleep. Dont worry about her. She doesnt sleep in the afternoon and keeps herself engaged in some work. Neha and Bholu noticed this and instead of wandering idly, began being

While everyone else went to their respective rooms for their siesta, Aunt took out some old boxes. She had papers, cards and glue which she gave to Bholu and Neha. Bholu was asked to cut the papers according to the size of one of the boxes, and Neha was required to stick them on the boxes with the help of glue. Bholu and Neha were given brushes to paint on the boxes using their favourite colours. When they had done the work as directed, a beautiful holder was ready. Aunt said, See! Your holder is ready. You can keep your pens in it, colour pencils or even make it a spoon stand for the kitchen. Isnt it useful? When everybody was up in the evening, Bholu and Neha showed off their holder to Granny-Grandpa, Uncle and Mom. From then on, Bholu and Neha would spend every afternoon with Aunt. Some days they would paint an old bottle to make a vase and some days they would decorate an old cardboard box with laces and pearls to make a jewellery box for Granny. Neha had learnt crochet work and had made a beautiful lace for her frock. The excitement of learning new things had brought them closer to Aunt and they would even help her in other chores. Playing in the harsh sunlight had stopped and this had led to Granny breathing it easy. The vacations were getting over now. When it was time to leave, the children were very sad. Their Mom hugged Nisha Aunt and said, What a positive change you have brought in my kids! This time they have spent their vacations in learning new things rather than wasting time. Yes, Aunt, this time our vacations had become very colourful, Neha said. Nisha Aunt hugged and kissed both the children with affection.

around their Aunt all the time. Sometimes they would open up paint bottles for her and sometimes bring water for her to dip in her paint brushes. Neha would wash the paint brushes and keep them clean. Aunt would be completely engrossed in her art while painting on the canvas. When she would do crochet work, Bholu and Neha would help her with the thread. One day Bholu expressed his desire to Aunt, Aunt, I too want to paint like you. Neha said, And Aunt, I want to make beautiful laces with crochet like you. Ill put them on my frocks. Their interest in her craft made Aunt very happy. She agreed immediately, Yes, Ill definitely teach you, but it will be a gradual process. You will also have to eat green vegetables. Ill make pizzas and burgers only on Sundays. Neha and Bholu looked at each other and nodded in agreement. The next day the children were waiting keenly for their afternoon time with Aunt. Neha even helped her in preparing food and Bholu in laying the table. After lunch, both the children were ready to help Aunt and learn something new from her.

cricket in the evening. Also, when Monu did his homework, Dollar sat next to him reading Champak. Dollar had read a few detective series from Champak and was fascinated by them. He thus thought that becoming a detective would be very exciting and wanted to try it out atleast once. And one fine day his wish was granted. Monus mother couldnt find her gold chain. She, along with Monu and Dollar, searched for it in each nook and corner of the house but still couldnt find it. She then recalled Ramia, their maid servant, and said to Monus father, I think Ramia has stolen the chain. How can you be so sure about it? asked father. Mother replied, The previous

but did not find it. Hence he was sure that Ramia had not stolen it. Dollar thus returned home. But that was not all; Dollar was determined to find out who had stolen the chain. He kept on thinking about the ways in which he could do so and finally a fantastic idea struck his mind. He took a 500-Rupee note from Monus mother and kept it on the bedroom table at night. He hid himself behind the door and kept an eye on the note while everyone else slept. Around midnight, Dollar heard some murmuring sound. He quietly peeped into the room and was stunned to see Latku and Matku, the two naughty rats chatting with each other.

night, I had kept it on the table in our bedroom. This morning when I went for a walk, Ramia had entered the bedroom for cleaning and must have robbed it then. To this, father said, We are not sure if Ramia has stolen the chain. Without proper proof, we cannot accuse her. You should search for it in the house again. It may have been misplaced. Dollar was silently listening to this conversation and decided to find out if Ramia was the culprit. He peeped into the kitchen and saw Ramia washing the utensils. He grabbed this opportunity and thought of searching for the chain in Ramias house. He put on his detective hat, wore black glasses and proceeded towards her house. Ramia stayed in the servants quarters opposite Monus house. The main door was locked and Dollar got in from an open window at the backside of the quarters. He wore gloves on his hands and carefully searched for the chain everywhere

jumped onto the table and caught hold of both the rats with his strong paws and said, So you both were the culprits who stole the chain. Latku and Matku tried hard to free themselves. Hearing all this commotion, Monu and his parents got up from their sleep. Dollar said to them, These are the thieves who had stolen the chain. Monu and his parents were shocked to see the rats. The rats said, We are really sorry. We shall return your chain right away.

Dollar then asked Monus father, Now what punishment should we impose upon them? To this father said, We will put them into a rat-trap and free them into the jungle. Monu immediately got the rat-trap, put Latku and Matku into it and released them in the jungle. Monus mother was very delighted to get her chain back. Everyone in the house praised Dollar. From that day onwards, Monu and his friends started calling Dollar Detective 007. Dollar was also glad that his wish of becoming a detective was fulfilled and that he got a new name.

Latku said, A 500-Rupee note! We can nibble at it with ease. Matku replied, You are absolutely right, Latku. The gold chain that we took yesterday was so hard that I couldnt nibble at it and now my tooth is paining because of that. Lets take this note away and keep the gold chain back here. To this Latku said, Dont be foolish, Matku. The current gold rates are so high that if we sell the chain in the market, we will get lots of money and can enjoy life to the fullest. Latku and Matku took the 500-rupee note and were leaving when Dollar

Do not worry Tosqui, said Mosqui, I have an idea to solve this problem. We mosquitoes try to get into the mosquito net at night when the human beings sleep inside it and we fail to get through. In the afternoon, these humans do not use the net and thus it is open. From now onwards, you get inside the net in the afternoon and hide in there until the night comes. When the humans fall asleep at night, you can feast happily on their blood.

The Failed Idea

By Pankaj Rai

Mosqui the Mosquito was considered very intelligent amongst all other mosquitoes. He was believed to have solutions to almost any kind of problem. One day, he met his friend Tosqui who seemed to be weak and feeble. Mosqui asked, What is wrong with you Tosqui? You look ill. To this Tosqui replied, Yes my friend, I am becoming weaker day by day because I am at the verge of starvation. These human beings have started using mosquito nets through which I cannot pass and thus dont get to suck their blood. That is the reason why I have become so thin and weak.

Tosqui was convinced with the idea and decided to implement it. After a few days, Mosqui met Tosqui and was surprised to see Tosqui healthy and happy like before. This was because Tosqui had implemented Mosquis

hospital. Chloroform works like anaesthesia and one does not feel any sensation of pain. Before biting a human being, you dip your proboscis in chloroform. After that, the human being will not feel any pain and you can suck as much blood as you want. Losqui loved the idea and headed straight to the nearby hospital to fetch chloroform. He dipped his proboscis in the bottle of chloroform and started to move towards his target. But before he could bite a human being, Losqui himself fell unconscious due to the effect of chloroform. He was lying unconscious in the middle of the hospital when an elderly mosquito noticed him. He quickly lifted Losqui and took him to a safe place. After about two hours, Losqui regained consciousness. By this time, Losquis family members and friends had reached there to see him. Mosqui was also present there and was feeling sad about Losquis condition. The elderly mosquito then said to everyone present there, Now that you all have witnessed the result of practicing Mosquis vague ideas, I request each one to not ask Mosqui for any kind of suggestions from now on. Mosqui felt sorry and decided never to give any ideas to anyone.

idea and it was successfully working. Tosqui then thanked Mosqui for that idea and moved on. That day onwards Mosqui became very well known for giving effective solutions for all sorts of problems. Several mosquitoes started coming to Mosqui with their problems and walked out with wonderful ideas to solve their problems. One evening, a mosquito called Losqui approached Mosqui with a problem. Losqui said, When the humans are asleep and I suck their blood, they feel a painful sensation of my bite, get up from their sleep and start scratching themselves. Is there a way by which I can suck their blood without them feeling any pain? Mosqui thought for a minute and said, Oh! That is not a problem at all. Chloroform is available in every

will you chew? These words irked the teeth. Dear tongue, maybe you are not aware that it is we who are responsible for an enchanting smile. Without us, nobody can look attractive. No one will bother about you, if we are not there, one tooth remarked. So much pride for nothing! You are 32 in number, but have no sense at all. The tongues retaliation further incensed the teeth. They moved towards the tongue to bite it, but it swiftly evaded the attack. Thats all you do, scare the weak, the tongue began crying. The lips, on hearing their conversation, consoled the tongue, Dont cry, tongue. They are like this all the time. They keep biting me too. The tongue had just stopped crying when a tooth bit it. It got hurt badly and started crying again, but the teeth were insensitive. They just laughed at its condition. However, this made the tongue more determined to teach the teeth a lesson they would never forget. One day when the lips got up in the morning, they yawned. The mouth opened.

Pride goes before a Fall

By Keshav Jangid Teeth and tongue fought again today. Teeth were claiming to be more important while tongue was calling itself to be more hardworking. The tongue showed off its significance, All you 32 teeth are useless without me. If I stop tasting the food, what

The tongue saw that some hefty wrestlers were exercising in front of them. The teeth were still asleep. They hadnt even brushed and so had a foul breath. An idea clicked in the tongues mind. It went close to the lip and told it about the plan. Then both burst out laughing at the imagination of what was to happen. The tongue challenged the wrestlers, Hey fatso, what are you exercising? If you are daring, come and fight with me. The lips too laughed at the wrestlers. By that time, the teeth were also awake. They saw

that the wrestlers were coming in their direction. This lead to panic amongst them and they began clattering in fear. A wrestler punched hard on the mouth. The tongue and lips ducked, but the teeth couldnt move. The impact of the punch was hard. All the teeth broke and fell down, some even out of the mouth. Sister tongue, please forgive us, they said. This incident brought sense in the teeth. Well never harm you again and we will be cordial with the lips too. Being proud and causing harm to others has never been a good trait. Just remember that, the tongue said. From that day onwards, the teeth made friends with the tongue and the lips.

Marvelous Marbles
By Anil Satija

ryan and Aneesha had once set out for a morning walk with their pet dog, Marshal. On the way Aryan handed over a box full of marbles to Aneesha and said, Look Aneesha, Harsh gifted me these marbles yesterday. Wow! They are indeed very beautiful. They are sparkling like pearls, said Aneesha. No sooner did she say this, and then Marshal the dog jumped onto the box to find out the reason

for Aneeshas amusement. The box fell from Aneeshas hand and all the marbles got scattered on the road. What have you done Marshal? said Aryan, Aneesha, please help me collect the marbles before someone slips over them. Just then, a tall man with a big moustache came running and

slipped over the marbles with a thud. Aryan helped him get up and said, I am sorry sir. It was due to my dogs mischief that the marbles fell on the road. The man angrily said, Do not justify your act. Had I not been running late, I would have definitely taught you both a lesson. He said this and left. After a few seconds, Aryan found a wallet lying nearby. He understood that it was that mans wallet and said to Aneesha, Lets follow him and return his wallet. He may not have gone too far. Aryan sent his pet dog Marshal home and they both started walking. The man entered an old bungalow and Aryan and Aneesha followed him there. In no time, the man disappeared inside the bungalow. Aryan and Aneesha felt very strange when they entered the bungalow. Aryan said, I cannot see even a bird fluttering around here. Where has that man disappeared? They then felt the wooden floor shaking slightly.

www.AndhraEbooks.com www.AndhraEbooks.com
Aneesha said, I think there is a basement down here and I can hear the footsteps of someone coming out from there. I can sense something dangerous here. Let us hide behind this sofa and see what happens, said Aryan. Aneesha and Aryan quietly hid behind an old sofa lying nearby. They saw the same tall man with a moustache coming out of the basement accompanied by another man dressed up in a formal suit. The tall man asked the other one, Boss, why did you stop printing the currency notes so early today? The other man replied, Mike, our printer is not working properly. We will have to call the technician for getting it repaired. The printing of notes will have to be done tomorrow only. You lock the door now and go home. Come back tomorrow with Danny. Do not come late like you came in today, said the man. I am sorry for being late Boss. I will be on time tomorrow, said the tall man. Ok. You can leave now, said his boss and drove away in his car. Mike too locked the door of the bungalow and left from there. Aryan and Aneesha got trapped in the bungalow. What should we do now? asked Aneesha. Aryan replied, I have carried my fathers mobile phone for getting it repaired. Well call Inspector uncle now. He called Inspector Sharma and narrated the whole incident. Just then the door opened

and the kids were startled to see Mike. Mike was shocked to see them there and said, What are the two of you doing here? And how did you get in? We had come to return your wallet, said Aneesha, Now please take your wallet and let us go. Mike said, I heard your conversation over the phone. You both know about our secret. Now I will not let you get out of here. Well that is a bet! Catch us if you can! exclaimed Aryan. Mike was about to run towards them when Aryan quickly took the marble box in his hand and scattered the marbles on the floor. Mike once again slipped over the

marbles and injured his back. Before he could manage to get up, Aryan and Aneesha carefully managed to pave their way through the marbles and fled from there. After coming out, Aryan quickly locked the main door from outside and said in jest, It has been such a bad day for this man. He slipped over the marbles twice and now will end up in the jail. In no time, Inspector Sharma and his team reached the spot and arrested Mike. They also traced his boss and other partners and put all of them behind the bars. Once again, Aryan and Aneesha had done a brave job and the newspapers were full of reports about their witty act. Their bravery and quick-wittedness was highly appreciated and rewarded.

DADAJI AND SAILOR
By Vivek Chakravarty

RIYA, YOU ARE LOOKING LIKE A PLAYER IN THIS WHITE DRESS.

BUT DADAJI, I AM GOING TO BE A SAILOR FOR THE FANCY DRESS COMPETITION!

DADAJI, GUESS WHAT AM I GOING TO ENACT AS IN THE FANCY DRESS COMPETITION? BUT YOU ARE NOT WEARING A SAILORS CAP , SO HOW WILL I KNOW WHETHER YOU ARE A SAILOR OR A PLAYER. OH! I FORGOT TO PUT ON THE CAP IN MY RUSH. RIYA, YOU SHOULD HAVE ENACTED AS A PLAYER LIKE ME. WHY ARE YOU PARTICIPATING AS A SAILOR?

BROTHER, THE IDEA CAME IN MY MIND WITH THE THOUGHT THAT SAILORS ARE SO BRAVE AND IT IS SO ADVENTUROUS TO SAIL A SHIP IN THE SEA. HOW CAN A SAILOR BE COURAGEOUS? HE JUST ROAMS AROUND HERE AND THERE ON HIS SHIP AND WASTES HIS TIME. YES DADAJI, JUST AS IT WAS IN SINDBAD THE SAILOR.

RAJU, THERE IS GREAT ADVENTURE IN THE LIVES OF THE SAILORS AND THAT IS WHY THEY ARE CONSIDERED DARING THAT WAS JUST A STORY, RIYA, BUT SAILORS HAVE TO FACE GRAVE DANGERS IN REALITY TOO. SOMETIMES THEY HAVE TO GRAPPLE WITH HIGH TIDES AND SOMETIMES WITH STORMS. WHAT, DADAJI? ALSO DO YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS SOMETIMES?

SOMETIMES THEY HAVE TO FACE WHALES AND PIRATES AS WELL.

www.AndhraEbooks.com www.AndhraEbooks.com
PIRATES? YES.

RAJU, DO YOU KNOW THAT IN THE OLD TIMES WHEN THERE WERE NO PLANES, THE BRAVE SAILORS WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR DISCOVERIES OF FAR-OFF PLACES?

DADAJI, A SAILOR MIGHT BE HAVING ADVENTURE IN HIS LIFE, BUT IT IS STILL WASTEFUL TO JUST ROAM AROUND IN A SHIP WITH NO PURPOSE. PORTUGUESE SAILOR VASCO DE GAMA HAD FOUND THE WAY TO REACH INDIA FROM EUROPE THROUGH THE SEA, WHEREAS ITALIAN SAILOR CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS HAD DISCOVERED AMERICA. THIS IS HOW THE OTHER COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD CAME TO KNOW ABOUT THESE COUNTRIES.

YES, DADAJI. YOU ARE RIGHT.

DO YOU NOW REALIZE HOW IMPORTANT SAILORS ARE? IF IT WAS NOT FOR THEM, THE PLAYERS COULDNT HAVE GONE TO OTHER COUNTRIES TO PLAY MATCHES IN THE OLD TIMES.

AGREED, SAILORJI. NOW PLEASE TAKE THIS PLAYER TO THE PLACE OF COMPETITION.

SONAL SUMIT

NOT ONLY THIS, BUSINESSES WERE CARRIED ABOUT BETWEEN TWO COUNTRIES THROUGH SEA ONLY. ALSO CRICKET PLAYERS OF VARIOUS COUNTRIES WOULD REACH OTHER COUNTRIES ONLY THROUGH SHIPS.

MEEKUS GOLD BISCUIT

By Shantha Nagarajan

fter working as a cook in Dubai for two years, Meeku Rabbit at last returned to Champakvan. At the Champakvan Airport Tommy Fox, the officer was checking the bags and baggages of the passengers for hidden guns or drugs.

Tommy noticed two gold biscuits hidden deep inside the bag. Ha! Gold biscuit! I shouldnt miss this golden opportunity to own gold! Tommy had in the past cheated many passengers at the airport by taking away costly items from their

While searching Meekus large bag,

Meeku ran to the police station and complained about Tommy to Inspector Chimpu Monkey. The police immediately rushed to Tommys burrow to search for the gold biscuit. As soon as Tommy saw the police van, he became alert. Oh! Police! They are coming to search my home. Where shall I hide the gold biscuit? He had a flash of an idea! He saw Mishki Kangaroo sitting and snoring near his door. In a trice, Tommy dropped the gold biscuit into Mishkis pouch. Meeku and Chimpu Monkey searched all over the burrow but couldnt find the biscuit. So they went away. After the police left, Tommy dashed to Mishki Kangaroo to take the gold biscuit.Come on, let me search your pouch I hid something inside it. Tommy flew into a rage when he found the pouch empty. He accused Mishki of playing mischief. Poor Mishki was in tears. It was Mishkis baby Meesha who did the mischief.

baggages. There were many complaints about him. Tommy was so attracted to the gold biscuit that he robbed one of the biscuits while pretending to be checking the contents of the bag. It was only after he went home and opened the bag thatMeeku noticed one biscuit missing. Oh! Cheated! Im sure it is the rogue Tommy who is the culprit.

While Inspector Chimpu was searching Tommys burrow, Meesha came running and slipped into her mothers pouch. Ouch! Whats inside? Meesha took the biscuit in her hand. Ha! A toy! She ran to her friends playing under the tamarind tree. Hei, Ive got a plaything! Jilly Jackal, who was seated above them on the tamarind tree, saw the biscuit. Oh my God! A gold biscuit! He dived down. He pulled out a chocolate bar from his pocket. Baby, you give me the plaything in your hand and take this toffee, said Jillu. Meeshas mouth watered and she readily gave the biscuit to Jillu. Ha! This must be worth a few thousand rupees! Let me at once go to Bablu Bears jewellery shop and sell it. He then sped to the shop of Bablu Bear the Goldsmith. He quickly sold the biscuit and sped away. At Meeku Rabbits house everyone advised him to sell the only gold biscuit remaining with him before somebody robs that. So he took the

biscuit to Bablu Bears shop. When Bablu saw the gold biscuit in Meekus hand, he exclaimed: Oh! Just now a similar biscuit was sold to me by Jillu! He then showed the biscuit to Meeku. Ah! Its the one I brought from Dubai. Meeku at once contacted Inspector Chimpu. Jillu was arrested and he admitted that he had gotten the biscuit from Meesha. When Chimpu questioned Meesha, she told him that she found the biscuit in her mothers pouch. Now if we question Mishki Kangaroo, well know who the culprit is, said Chimpu. Mishki was brought to the police station. She complained about Tommy Fox. Tommy is beating me. He says he hid something in my pouch, hes now asking me to give it to him, but there was nothing in my pouch. Ha ha Now I know the answer! Tommy Fox had hidden the stolen gold biscuit inside Mishkis pouch when we went to search his burrow. But alas, baby Meesha removed it from her mothers pouch and the cheat lost it, remarked Inspector Chimpu. Chimpu immediately arrested Tommy Fox who had to admit to his crime.
