June 19, 2013 Dear Parents and Guardians, My name is Manal Abraham, and I am a student at the University of Central

Florida. This letter is going out to the parents of students to notify you of a reading program I am beginning with teachers and students. We would like the support and involvement of parents in this program and below you will find details of the program and ways for you to get involved. This program is an extension of the reading programs already set up in school and is designed to help teachers help students get the individual time necessary to bump up students reading skills. It is important to instill suitable reading skills when students are young, therefore when it comes time for them to prepare for standardized testing they are not overwhelmed and unprepared. The goal of the program is to improve reading skills of young children, mainly in grades first, second, and third. To do this I have gathered a group of UCF students interested in the cause and I would like to have parents of students involved in helping students, as well as learn new ways to engage your children in reading. I would like students to see reading as an enjoyable task, instead of an activity that is forced upon them. Parents can get involved by volunteering with the program and will be involved in tasks such as: Working and speaking to students individually about reading. Helping to teach students in small group setting the benefits of reading. Making students see that reading can be an enjoyable activity and not something that should be forced upon. Helping with activities that incorporate academic reading, as well as pleasure reading. What makes this different from all programs set up in schools already is that it is set up solely for the purpose of each student to get one-on-one time with a member of the group or a teacher. In a class, often students do not get enough individual attention for them to prepare for what is to come as they get to higher level grades. It is important to instill suitable reading skills when students are at a young age, therefore when it comes time for them to prepare for standardized testing they are not overwhelmed and unprepared. If you are interested in joining and helping with the program there will be a meeting at Manatee Elementary School in August. Your feedback means a lot to us and is strongly encouraged. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. You can reach me on my cell phone at (999) 999-9999 or by email at mayabraham@knights.ucf.edu. Thank you for your time and consideration. Manal Abraham
