Android Hackathon- Rewind

As we pulled down the curtains on 30th March 2014 for our Android Hackathon, we thought of doing a quick rewind. Least to say, we have come across great partners with whom we wish to collaborate in the future and of course enthusiastic hackers who stayed up all night to create apps that can bring about change. Our theme revolved around mobilizing voters, and we were amazed at the creativity we got to see throughout the hackathon. Our ecosystem partner Microsoft Ventures graciously offered us their space to host our event. They have always been supportive and one step ahead in working and helping startups build this ecosystem in Bangalore. We are delighted and humbled at their valuable support. We had Sanjay from Neemtec Solution as one of our speakers. Sanjay is an ex-Quicker and Tutorvista. He addressed issues surrounding inductive thinking. We also had Commander P.G. Bhatt who spoke about the impact technology has on electoral roll. Jyotsna Pattabiraman from Knowlarity on the other hand addressed the purpose of having technology. Teams from various cities along with Bangalore moved into the Microsoft ventures premises for this night long hackathon. We had students from VIT University, BITS-Pilani, Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology, PESIT and IIT Kharagpur. Working professionals from companies like eBay, Meradata, Mobiotics, Jutera Labs, Accenture, Pramati Technologies, Aircel Maxis and many others participated. It was a treat to watch Srinivasan Subramanian, CTO ofAccel Partners sit up all night and keep hacking. Srinivasan mentors startups in technology areas, with emphasis on best practices on web-technologies and scaling. The enthusiasm and zeal to create something was at its peak in the hackathon. NeemTech Solution provided their cloud based API generation platform and Knowlarity provided their cloud telephony API for the hackers to build their apps. Their collaboration was instrumental in making this event a success. The Venturesity team looks forward to join hands with them in the future. We are proud to announce that Team Indifferent from eBay won the hackathon with its Mood Nation app: predicting mood of the electorate via sentiment analysis of social media activity. They were closely followed by VIT Innovatorsfrom VIT University with their Voice ur Vote app with its aim to try and encourage more and more people to vote. Srinivasan and his team took the third position with their app showcasing volume of queue during the time of elections in the near-by polling booth. There is a lot of talent out there and it was delightful on our part to have got a chance to help people tap into it. We had an amazing experience in creating and nurturing talent. This has been a learning experience for all of us at Venturesity. We will be releasing more about our winning teams and final presentations. Keep an eye on our blog.
