Racial Profiling and Police

What Does America Think?

American law enforcement is often critiqued from the things they to do the society in America. People of all colors, ethnicity, and origin in America all feel the pain that the law enforcement gives them. Not everyone agrees, but most believe that Racial Profiling is a major issue that needs to be solved in America. Many major cases of racial profiling have been reported. Societies believe that the government should start paying attention more to law enforcement to resolve the situation.

What is Racial Profiling?

Racial Profiling is the choice by law enforcers on how a situation should be handled based on the color, ethnicity, or origin of that person. In racial profiling a policeman or police will most likely profile a certain individual who is to them more likely to perpetrate a crime. For example, a police may see someone who lives in a very poor neighborhood and because of that persons circumstance they will be treated differently from someone with who lives in a high-class

neighborhood. Also if an individual who is poor and is caught with something expensive that individual is atomically profiled. Racial profiling is not considered fair but many law officials have reported to say that it is easier to identify possible criminal activity before it occurs.

Statistics show that African Americans are several times more likely to be arrested and incarcerated than white Americans. As of 2000, fewer African American men were in college than were in prison. Moreover, black children were nine times as likely as white children to have at least one parent in prison

Driving While Black

A main term that is used by African Americans is Driving While Black or DWI. This means that when an African American is driving he/she will be pulled because of their color and not because of a crime or thing they did. This has been a main problem in America and many cases have been bought about because of this. One main case was the one of 1996. In 1996 ABC paid three black young men to drive a Mercedes-Benzes to see if they would be pulled because of the race. They drove around in New Brunswick, New Jersey and were none the less pulled over by three different cops. Since they were black the cops took the situation to another hand which by searching them and their cars. This was broadcasted and proved to America about

racial profiling. After this case the three police were fired and racial profiling became an even bigger issue.

Has the government helped?

Many governments believe that racial profiling is a good thing. One person that felt that racial profiling was good believed that racial profiling was a good thing. Jan Brewer is a governor in Arizona: On April 23, 2010, Arizona governor Jan Brewer signed into law a discriminatory and un-American law that will require police officers in Arizona to ask people for their papers based only on some undefined "reasonable suspicion" that they are in the country unlawfully. We believe this law, which invites racial profiling in the worst way, is unconstitutional, and we are challenging the law with a coalition of other civil rights groups. (Racial Profiling 1) When this happened this proved too many societies that the America that they live in is unbalanced.

Has Racial Profiling helped?

Many incidents have shown that racial profiling has helped law enforcement pick out on certain criminals and those studies show that they have had the wrong. Even so however, more cases show that racial profiling has either caused crime towards the police or protesting towards law enforcement. Racial profiling shown to be a good tactic to use by law enforcement and no one yet has reported to have put an end to it. Not even the president can stop it. In 2008 sheriff Aairpio was sued because of his misjudging and of a Latino crew he believed that since they were Latina they were criminals. This one incident clearly states that racial profiling cannot be helping anyone but the police. Racial Profiling should be a red sign and should be targeted and terminated as a practice of law enforcement and, if so any other establishment that believes in it racial profiling.

911

Why not profile? Lets see Muslims, or so-called Muslims, were responsible for 911 and many Arab countries have publicly made known their hatred for the USA so why not profile.(Whether Profiling actually works 1)

Above is a comment made by an unidentified person years after 911 hit. 911 proved to a lot of people that profiling is and should be necessary. Even though this happened by Arabs, whos to say that a U.S citizen wouldnt do the same to his/her. Even though 911 made a big controversy about racial profiling that doesnt give law enforcement the right to check someone or accuse this of a crime. Remember racial profiling is not only the profiling of a race, but of someones worth, origin, or place of residents. With that being said 911 was a terrorist attack on the United States. The criminals were not U.S citizens. Studies show U.S is the top rated country for denying citizenship. Now if they were to do a background check upon those criminal before they landed in the U.S things may have changed. Which proves that because they committed a crime does not mean another person of the same race, gender, or classification should be profiled.

Educating On Racial Profiling

Many teachers and professors today focus on teaching their students racial profiling and how to prevent being profiled or targeted. Professor Charles of Tulane says that racial profiling is a way for law enforcement to display whatever unmannerly like conduct they would like to display. He says if racial profiling didnt go that way then he would feel differently about this topic of racial profiling. Also Professor Pierre of Tulane University who has worked there for 30 years, also focuses on educating her students on racial profiling. She says since

Tulane University is such a big of a college she has seen many different incidents go on due to racial profiling. Ive seen many students loose scholarships and their funding because of the fact that they are racial profiled which is I speak so much on it in on Tulanes campus.

Should Law Enforcement Use It

Studies show that law enforcement does not need racial profiling at all. Since the incident with ABC and with 911, racial profiling needs to be terminated from the law enforcement system in America. Societies of all color race and origin want to feel as though they can be comfortable to leave their homes and family places and not be judged by what they are. Does law enforcement profile each other when they apply? No they do not. They are each type of color in a law enforce which proves that it should be impossible to racial profile do to the fact that there is every kind of person on the law enforcement too. Racial profiling should be terminated completely.
