Application for Student-Originated Studies: Theory and Practice in the Visual Arts

Name: Daniel J. Gregory II e-mail Address: dgregory338@gmail.com Student ID (A#): A00121088 Phone: 425.328.7090 Basic Program Information:
This program is based on a student originated project in visual art. This is for intermediate/advanced level students who are capable of working independently on a project and who also have the maturity and experience necessary to contribute to (and benefit from) an artistic community. Half of the credits in this 16 credit program stem from your project and the other half of the credits are earned through research related to your project and program activities such as seminars, field trips, and research presentations. Readings for seminars are selected by the students in the program. Each student will have a turn to select readings from the journal databases that are relevant to the students own project. Academic projects about art are also possible. Thus, students who want to do research and writing on art history, art administration, museum studies, or have an internship possibility in an art-related field may substitute this type of work for the studio project component.

In order to Apply: Your application consists of two components: a Portfolio and Selection
Questions. Your acceptance into the program is ONLY based upon your Portfolio and your answers to the Selection Questions. If your application is accepted a separate Logistical Questionnaire will be sent out.

Portfolio:
A CD or DVD with work samples is preferred. You may submit up to 8 images of your work. Make sure to include at least one image of work relevant to the project you propose. For example, if you are doing a painting project, dont submit all 8 images of sculptures. If you cannot submit a digital portfolio, you may arrange to briefly drop off physical samples of your work for faculty to review at a set time.

Yes, but I also have aa physical work that I would like to show you, Are you submitting a CD or DVD of work samples? OR Do you need to bring in physical work? How should I contact you to arrange for viewing? I Will be able to show a finished product of my artwork, namely a Button Blanket.

Selection Questions: 1) Please describe the nature of the individual project you plan to pursue. Make sure to include a description of the media you would like to work in, theme, subject matter, scale/duration. If your idea is for an academic project or an internship, provide specific details here. I would like to design, and make two button blankets this term. Usually I do the art work and then help apply buttons. I would like to learn skills/refine my skills in making button blankets. I will use modern methods to make the blankets, but will try and keep the design in keepings and traditions with native tribes.

2) What previous experiences (academic and otherwise) have prepared you for this program? I have previous experience making the designs using CAD software, and I also have taken design classes in which I studied this art form.

3) Please provide the name of a faculty or staff member who is familiar with your work and could provide a reference for you: I am a transfer student and have not done any design work in this school I can supply names of people that I have worked on these projects with.

End note: This is just one of many artist fields I want to study, I do draw, building models, and paint models as well. If those would be a more acceptable form of study for this class I am open to them as well.
