Guided Wave Radar Specification Scope : This specification defines the requirements for Guided Wave Radar Instrumentation

for use in critical control and safety applications as well as monitoring applications. The specification covers all hardware, software, software configuration, calibration and communications with host control systems, when so required. Vendor requirements:

The manufacturer of the Guide Wave Radar type Level instrumentation shall be certified to the international standard ISO9001. Environment Conditions: The Guide Wave Radar transmitter shall be housed in a robust housing suitable for harsh environments. The transmitter shall be enclosed in a dual-compartment housing providing isolation between the electronics and terminal compartments. Guide Wave Radar transmitters shall have significant immunity to the effects of industrial EMI and RFI, which cause increased process measurement variability and potential alarm conditions. The transmitter shall meet EMC directive 204/108/EC. EN61326-1: 2006.NAMUR recommendation NE21. The Guide Wave Radar Probe shall be galvanically isolated from electronics. For Lightning Protection , the transmitter shall meet requirements listed under IEC 61326,IEC 801-5 , level 1kV and optionally should comply with IEEE586 category B transient protection and IEEE 472 surge protection. Guide Wave Radar shall be capable of working under 100% Humidity. Instrument Specification - Transmitter General Instrument Specification Transmitter and Probe:

The Principal of Operation for the Guided Wave Radar shall be based on Time Domain Reflectometry ( TDR) technology. Guided Wave Radar transmitters shall be SMART , microprocessor based, with the capacity to communicate with modern digital communications protocols. Digital communication with the Level transmitter shall be available via open protocols (e.g. HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, ). Proprietary protocols are not permitted. The mA value for alarm should be configurable in the field using a HART communicator. The instrument display shall have a LCD with user configurable settings. The LCD shall be capable to toggle between , Level Distance , volume , interface distance , interface level , interface thickness ,analog current output , percentage range ,international temperature, user-defined units, and instrument diagnostic messages. The Guide

Waver Radar transmitters shall be able to fully communicate with Windows-based Instrument Management software via an open communication protocol. The Guided Wave Radar shall have ability to configure variable threshold curve for Level and Interface throughout the measuring range for robust measurement. The Guided Wave Radar should be able to filter out disturbance from long nozzle up to 1 meter from the radar flange using advanced software.

The Guided Wave Radar shall have advanced measurement function to enable reliable level readings at high levels and functions to provide multiple layers of protection to help detect potential overfill situations. The Guided Wave Radar shall have independent third party approval such as WHG for overfill detection. The Guided wave Radar transmitter shall have advanced diagnostics capability to monitor coating/build up over the probe. The instrument shall allow the user to input customized coating / buildup limits, and if this limit exceeded, then an alert shall be given. The analog signal shall alarm to the user defined saturation level. All instruments will retain original factory calibration settings in a permanent memory capable of being re called. Guide Wave Radar can use of Single Rigid / Flexible, Twin Rigid/Flexible or coaxial probe. Single probes are always the preference in coating applications. The guided wave radar should handle low dielectrics (down to 1.4 in tank / 1.25 in chamber) also with single probes. It should have features to handle boiling hydrocarbons. The Guided Wave Radar should have advanced electronics like Direct Switch Technology or equivalent to eliminate losses in the microwave chain and thus increase the sensitivity. Probes used on High pressure and high Temperature ( greater than 150 degC and 40 Bar) should have minimum double seal protection Primary seal should have dual ceramic seal and shall be designed with flexible mechanism to handle mechanical stress. The secondary seal should be a Gas tight hermetical seal protected from the process. The Guided Wave Radar Transmitter electronics shall be compatible with all probe type Single rigid / Flexible and Coaxial. There should be no matching between transmitter electronic and different probe style there by reducing / simplifying spare part inventory. The Guided Wave Radar Transmitter on SIS loop shall have a third party (such as TUV/Exida) FMEDA report with SFF >90 suitable for SIL 2. d Monitoring Applications Measuring Performance for Guided Wave Radar (For all probes) Reference accuracy should be at least 3 mm or 0.03% of measured distance, whichever is larger Repeatability: equal to or better than 1mm

Ambient temp effect: 0.2 mm whichever is greater. Update Interval: < 1 per Sec

/ deg K or 30ppm/deg K of measured value,
