Event Ad Imaging Brochure Business Card Letterhead Montage Logos Web Page Flier

Description: A color full-bleed event advertisement to promote a

fundraiser using Microsoft Word.

Programs Used: Microsoft Word Date: 2/1/14 Course: COMM 130-03 Instructor: Cory Kerr Objective: Create an advertisement for an event Process: First I scanned the image of a sunflower that I got from the front
of a greeting card. I scanned it in the Copy Spot on BYU-I campus next to the bookstore. Then I inserted the image in Microsoft Word, and had the image take up the entire page. The next steps were to place the text with good alignment, spacing, and white space, making sure to choose a font that would contrast the photo well.

Description: Incorporate basic photography and photo editing skills and

create a full-bleed photo design project using Adobe Photoshop.

Programs Used: Photoshop Date: 2/8/14 Course: COMM 130-03 Instructor: Cory Kerr Objective: Take an original photo, and incorporate it into a photo design
in Adobe Photoshop.

Description: A two sided (duplex) folding brochure. Programs Used: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator Date: 5/29/14 Course: COMM 130-03 Instructor: Cory Kerr Objective: Create a brochure incorporating 4 photos (at least one clipped
image,) an original logo, and at least 250 words with a text wrap.

Process: First I came up with the theme for the Brochure, which was Galati

Realty. I chose that because Galati is my last name, and Real Estate companies have professional looking brochures. I sketch a general layout of the brochure, and then went to work. I created my original logo in Illustrator using the Pen tool and others. Then I placed the logo in my InDesign brochure draft. I found four professional looking photos on the internet, and also placed them in my brochure. Then I found two other photos, and opened them in photoshop so I could clip them to make a clean selection. I placed those in my brochure also. I wrote my body copy in Microsoft Word, and made sure to have at least 250 words with good grammar and spelling. I organized that into my brochure to follow my design. Then I wrapped text around two of my images. After I had all of my elements where I wanted them to be, I printed it out, trimmed it, and folded it. I pressed the edges down with a credit card.

Description: Crate a business card using a personally created logo. Programs Used: Illustrator Date: 3/1/14 Course: COMM 130-03 Instructor: Cory Kerr Objective: Create a business card using Adobe Illustrator incorporating an
original logo.

Process: I created the logo in Adobe Illustrator using the pen tool to

manipulate the text, and the line tools. Then I placed the logo into a new topage InDesign document. First I created the business card. I played with a few designs, finally deciding on keeping the logo and the personal information in the bottom corners. Second, I created my stationary. I decided to repeat the element of the dots in E.V. and continued them across the header to lead into my personal contact information. I repeated the same element at the bottom of the page to create balance. Programs/Tools Used: Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.

Description: Create a montage using Photoshop Programs Used: Photoshop Date: 2/15/14 Course: COMM 130-03 Instructor: Cory Kerr Objective: Create a montage using masks in Photoshop. Process: Using Adobe Photoshop, I chose to blend two original images
that I had taken. I re-sized the images to 118.5, and then created a mask over the image of the notebook paper. After blending with different opacities, and black and white brushes, I created a greenish/black hued overlay on the upper left corner, and the bottom right corner to create balance and being consistent with the color scheme. Then I added the text and adjusted the size and font to add contrast.

Description: Create three logos for the same company. Programs Used: Illustrator Date: 2/22/14 Course: COMM 130-03 Instructor: Cory Kerr Objective: Create three original logos for the same company using the
FOCUS Principles.

Process: This project was created in Illustrator. I had never used it before,

but it was similar to Photoshop so it wasnt hard to catch on. On two of the logos, I used text and stroke manipulation. On the last logo, I used the pencil tool to outline a photo of a piece of marble rye bread, then I filled it in with appropriate colors. I had to use the white arrow tool, and the convert anchor point tool to help make the edges smoother on the bread.I tried to use contrasting typography that was bold, because The Marble Rye is a band name. The program I used was Adobe Illustrator.

Description: A web page designed to showcase a personally designed

logo.

Programs Used: Textwrangler, Illustrator Date: 3/15/14 Course: COMM 130-03 Instructor: Cory Kerr Objective: Create a web page incorporating a personally designed logo
using HTML and CSS.

Process: I created this web page using TextWrangler. I was brand new to

HTML and CSS, so it was really fun to learn how you could manipulate a web page using only a text editor. It was also beneficial to use the HTML Validator http://www.W3.org to make sure that I did not have any major errors in my code. After I finished making the main structure of my web page with HTML, I attached a previously made CSS document to my HTML. This is how I was able to manipulate the cosmetics of my page, with color and font manipulations. I matched the background color with my logo using the hex colors that I looked up in Photoshop using the eye dropper tool. I changed my header font to Times New Roman and the main font was Lucida Sans Unicode. I also included some back-up fonts in case a web browser couldnt recognize it. Programs/Tools: TextWrangler & Photoshop.

Description: This is a promotional flier for a Graduate Leadership

Conference.

Programs Used: InDesign Date: 1/25/14 Course: COMM 130-03 Instructor: Cory Kerr Objective: Create a flier using InDesign incorporating provided text, and
an image.

Process: First I created four different sketches with four different layouts,
and then I chose my favorite one. The layout I chose was the first one I visualized. After I had the layout visualized and sketched, I created it using Adobe InDesign. I am very literal when it comes to balance, so I used a very balanced color scheme with plenty of contrast. I used the same fonts to connect similar ideas. I kept whitespace very clean, as well as my copy.
