Below is my response to the essay question: why you are interested in your choice of major, required by Drexel University

Could you please help checking the ideas, word choice, grammar and tone? (any, not necessarily all, of course ^___^) It is a little bit similar to the Contribution essay I've posted. :-" You all know how these application essays work. :"> j/k ^^ Today's digital environment makes it necessary to have ICT/Digital knowledge, rather than focusing only on traditinal knowledge. Therefore, studying abroad provides a golden key to open the door to human intellect and images of the real world. The United States is undoubtedly the most desirable destination because of its unique liberal colleges that provide rigorous education environment. Among hundreds of prestigious schools, Drexel University particularly attracts me for its high quality of online education, specially a flexible and convineint online program for my busy work and personal schedule. Access to information and knowledge are fundamental for education and development as well as being an essential requirement for improving the quality of life for people living in regions where the population has not yet reached a high level of economic and social development. Libraries play an important role in the educational and research process. A digital library can provide access to many of the knowledge networks around the world, which is a necessary component of any research experience. Libraries have long served crucial roles in learning. The first great library, in Alexandria two thousand years ago was really the first university. It consisted of a zoo and various cultural artifacts in addition to much of the ancient world's written knowledge and attracted scholars from around the Mediterranean who lived and worked in a scholarly community for years at a time. Today, the rhetoric associated with the National/Global Information Infrastructure (N/GII) always includes examples of how the vast quantities of information that global networks provide (i.e., digital libraries) will be used in educational settings [16].

A library is fundamentally an organized set of resources, which include human services as well as the entire spectrum of media (e.g., text, video, hypermedia). Libraries have physical components such as space, equipment, and storage media; intellectual components such as collection policies that determine what materials will be included and organizational schemes that determine how the collection is accessed; and people who manage the physical and intellectual components and interact with users to solve information problems. Libraries serve at least three roles in learning. First, they serve a practical role in sharing expensive resources. Physical resources such as books and periodicals, films and videos, software and electronic databases, and specialized tools such as projectors, graphics equipment and cameras are shared by a community of users. Human resources--librarians (also called media specialists or information specialists) support instructional programs by responding to the requests of teachers and students (responsive service) and by initiating activities for teachers and students (proactive services). Responsive services include maintaining reserve materials, answering reference questions, providing bibliographic instruction, developing media packages, recommending books or films, and teaching users how to use materials. Proactive services

include selective dissemination of information to faculty and students, initiating thematic events, collaborating with instructors to plan instruction, and introducing new instructional methods and tools. In these ways, libraries serve to allow instructors and students to share expensive materials and expertise. Second, libraries serve a cultural role in preserving and organizing artifacts and ideas. Great works of literature, art, and science must be preserved and made accessible to future learners. Although libraries have traditionally been viewed as facilities for printed artifacts, primary and secondary school libraries often also serve as museums and laboratories. Libraries preserve objects through careful storage procedures, policies of borrowing and use, and repair and maintenance as needed. In addition to preservation, libraries ensure access to materials through indexes, catalogs, and other finding aids that allow learners to locate items appropriate to their needs. Third, libraries serve social and intellectual roles in bringing together people and ideas. This is distinct from the practical role of sharing resources in that libraries provide a physical place for teachers and learners to meet outside the structure of the classroom, thus allowing people with different perspectives to interact in a knowledge space that is both larger and more general than that shared by any single discipline or affinity group. Browsing a catalog in a library provides a global view for people engaged in specialized study and offers opportunities for serendipitous insights or alternative views. In many respects, libraries serve as centers of interdisciplinarity-places shared by learners from all disciplines. Digital libraries extend such interdisciplinarity by making diverse information resources available beyond the physical space shared by groups of learners. One of the greatest benefits of digital libraries is bringing together people with formal, informal, and professional learning missions.
nother important advantage is preservation. Digital information can be copied without error. As a result, preservation in a digital world does not depend on having a permanent object and keeping it under guard, but on the ability to make multiple copies, assuming that at least one will survive. The major risk to digital objects is usually not physical deterioration but technological obsolesence of the devices to read them. Helical-scan magnetic tape is perhaps the only format likely to wear out before it becomes obsolete. The lifetime of magneto-optical cartridges, linear magnetic tape, and certainly CD-ROM is expected to be in decades, while the lifetime of the reading devices is perhaps only about one decade (except for CD-ROM). But assuming a reasonable refreshing schedule, and a reasonable attempt to avoid buying devices which are special-purpose rather than widely marketed, libraries can expect that digital information will be kept with less deterioration than paper
The emergence of the World Wide Web is changing societys view of information by making unprecedented volumes of information freely available. Of course, it is an unreliable source of enlightenment, and undiscriminating use is dangerous and, unfortunately, widespread. Nevertheless, the web abounds with accessible, high-quality information. Many educational establishments, international organizations, social groups, non-profit societies and charities make it their business to create sites on which they collect and organize information.

The chief reason to applying to Drexel University, is that I come from India, a developing country in Southeast Asia, follower of US in developments, where skilled professional are immensely needed. Recently in India, Digital libraries cultural is growing rapidly, and skilled professionals are woOften when involved in international trade cases, Vietnam finds itself suffering from some financial loss. This fact is largely due to a severe dearth of human capitals in Micro and Macro management. By studying business at Drexel and taking co-op chances to learn how the real market operates in (one of) the most competitive trading environment(s), I will make an effortful attempt to bring positive changes to the current domestic economic downturn. Also, for the most part, a major in business can broaden both my mind and skills. Hardly could any other profession adopt such flexibility and comprehensiveness. I can learn to adapt changes in the global market as well as gain adequate knowledge in many other fields such as law, sociology, psychology, etc. Some elite business leaders of the world as Bill Gates, the legendary billionaire, or Sergey Brin, founder of the Google search engine company and internet entrepreneur, possessed such great philosophy and creativity that they become greatly influential and exemplary to the youth. In order to achieve my savage dream to be like them, I determine that the first step is to follow a reputable education provider. [this paragraph is very, very awkward, really need help here :( thanx] Apart from academic rationales, business major is appealing to me because a future vocation in this area will help me to satisfy my desire to physically discover the world. Doing business with international partners will supply me with a large amount of abroad travel, which is one of my biggest interests. I have been to many areas of Vietnam, my home country, and highly valued their beautiful landscape and rich culture, like tranquil Hue old capital, busy Hoi An ancient town or flowery Da Lat valley. I yearningly wish to have similar experience in other parts of the world like expecting the sunrise at a crowded port in Venice or lying comfortably on the white sand by the blue waving sea of Hawaii. Those are valuable adventures that a different job like accountant or science researcher with equally heavy work-load and well-paid salary cannot grant me. However happy I feel towards my present life, I am ready for a new home at pleasant Philadelphia, where I could cultivate my interest in business major and discover a vibrant campus life. I am looking forward to receiving the accepted ticket for the journey to gain humans' most valuable treasure: knowledge.
