Group 5: Ethan Rumrill, Morgan Tucker, Changsu Han, Tami Dixon Topic: Gender Based Violence.

(Case Study) A. What do you feel your group did really well? Choose three things and provide some details around why you chose these. 1. Clearly-defined roles: participants could easily see who was guiding discussions and were aware of their roles as participants 2. Organized who would lead each of the activities: by divvying up activities, every facilitator participated equally and participants did not feel they were being taught by one or two facilitators 3. Good visuals: posters encouraged participation and ensured that all participants were working from the same base of understanding B. What would you change if you were to facilitate this session again? Choose three things and provide some details of what you would do differently 1. Introduction of the group activity would be done better. Clearer explanation given, and verbally asking are there any questions before we move on. 2. Written participant role and session objectives for participants to be able to see and refer to throughout the session. 3. More active facilitation in small group activity. C. At what points in your session did you feel that participants were most engaged and why? People were most engaged during the collective brainstorming and discussion of the case stories. This is most likely due to the fact that they had been broken into smaller groups, were given a concrete example to work with, and there were a mix of genders in each group. D. How well did your session address issues of power, privilege and marginalization? How could you rework the session to more effectively engage with power issues? Our first activity gave participants a space to voice their own definition of what the words violence, force, and informed consent meant to them. We were actively talking about power imbalance in the context of gender based violence. One piece of feedback we were given is that when asking people to write down things on a card, when its a topic like this, it would be a good idea to let them know ahead of time that they would be sharing it with the group. E. How would you describe your teamwork in preparing and facilitating this exercise? Collaborative and equitable in distribution of tasks and responsibilities. Communicated well Equally committed to understanding the material and being prepared to facilitate Comfortable. Working on this team flowed well, individuals brought a positive attitude.

F. What is the most important feedback that you received that you will take with you and apply?

1) Be cognizant of the sensitive nature of certain topics and try to find the proper balance between energy/levity and gravity. 2) Writing the objectives and posting them visually. 3) Letting participants know when their private reflections will be asked to be shared with the group. 4) Asking participants if they have any questions before beginning the main activity to ensure clarity.
