Type of Lesson: Singing and Story Time Class/Student(s): Story time Age/Proficiency Level: 3-4 years old native speakers of English Implemented: 03/05/14
Language Objective: Students will be able to distinguish two different characters in the story Materials: 1) INSIDE MOUSE OUTSIDE MOUSE 2) FIRST DOG Overview: 1) Ask questions frequently to see if students know words about colors, objects, or etc. 2) Ask other objects in the story (e.g. other animals, rocks, and etc. so that they can improve their vocabulary capacity. 3) If a student doesnt know a word, let other students help him/her know the word. Time: 5 min 3 min (Throughout whole time) 4 min 5 min
Assessment: At the end of the session, students will be briefly assessed about characteristics of the main characters by pointing with their finger
Extensions/Adaptations: 1) In case of necessity of additional explanation of words, prepare electronic devices to look up words and visual aids that describe the words. 2) Visual aids are always useful for young leaners 3) Being random during the story time, in order to maintain young learners attention
Instructions: 1) Give names of the main characters and try young learners if they remember them 2) Ask them to point any character randomly with their finger 3) Continuously, ask them to point out whatever object you find in the story to keep their attention during story time 4) Help them understand story as a complete picture, not an individual scene 5) Re-ask them about characters and objects that you thought important
Total: 17 min Evaluation: - It was very good to see how effective the strategy of maintaining their attention really is - Young learners are very honest to their feelings and emotions - The proficiency level of reading materials dont necessarily have to be the same level of the young learners because the books provide proper visual aids for them
