1 INTRODUCTION
This document is the product release note for PacketSpan R3.1.1 comprising the Ethernet Line/LAN Switch ELS1000S (Layer 2 card) for SMA and UC/EX equipment. The document describes the release of the ELS-1000S product identified by the release number PacketSpan R3.1.1 Rev 2 and should be read in conjunction with the release note for R3.1 Rev 3 and for R3.1.1 Rev 1. As upgrade of release R3.1 this release introduces New Features (section 2.1) and rectifies a number firmware issues from R3.1.1 Rev 1 (section 4.1). The new Build Identity included in this document has been evaluated for continued regulatory compliance from that stated at the previous product release number. Marconi declares, that the changes made do not impact on the previously stated certifications and approvals. The product release of R3.1.1 Rev 2 supports Layer 2 functionality to all SMA shelves and SMA1/4UC R3.2 according to section 2.2. This Release Notes must be read in conjunction with Issue 6 and Issue 7 of the ELS-1000S Release Notes.

2 FEATURES
2.1 FEATURE OVERVIEW
The Layer 2 card will support transfer of Ethernet traffic from multiple remote end user sites over a single physical interface to the core switch/router. To optimise the use of bandwidth in the network, the private lines are not necessarily transferred on single point-to-point SDH links, instead they will be aggregated (layer 2 switched) at appropriate points in the network and forwarded as several virtual lines in a single higher bandwidth SDH pipe, and terminated at a single Gigabit Ethernet port.
Layer 2 Transport is the mechanism to transport data packets as private lines transparently through an SDH network either physically separated (EPL) with a 1:1 relationship between physical input and output ports or logically separated as virtual private lines (EVPL) with a n:m relationship between input and output ports. Aggregation of Ethernet over SDH links (24 SDH VCs or VC Groups) 2 x GigE interfaces (SFP modules at the front) 4 x FastE interfaces (SFP modules at the front) VLAN tagging n x VC-12,3,4 mapping GFP, LCAS Traffic Management
Ethernet Flow Control (PAUSE frames [IEEE 802.3])
Link Loss Forwarding (LLF) on Ethernet Interfaces and SDH TCs SDH Broadcast Connections Enhanced Performance Management acc. RFC2863 and RFC2819 (RMON)
Jumbo Frames according customer feature list item 6.4.3 and 6.4.5.
Maximum Frame Size is configurable per GbE interface and SDH TC 5 and 6 in the range of 64 .. 5000, which is available when card operates in "Jumbo Frame Mode". Supported Services: Ethernet Private Line (EPL) Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL), can be supported between any interfaces The product feature definition for PacketSpan R3.1 and R3.1.1 (ELS-1000S) can be found in the document:

4.1 LIMITATIONS REMOVED IN R3.1.1 REV 2

Fault Description
Fault Description New configured switch B may fail to boot with in a shelf with equipped ELS1000S. The Fast Ethernet ports of the card currently don't operate correctly when set to half duplex operation. The ports can be set to half duplex operation either via auto-negotiation or in a fixed way. However the ports don't react on detected collisions in the correct way so that they tend to send more traffic as one would expect. This leads to a large number of collision detections on the link partner equipment. 4 MINOR MANAGEMENT LIMITATIONS

4 MINOR MANAGEMENT LIMITATIONS TD Ref 2037 2085 EMDS Ref -6102577 Fault Description The performance counters for traffic queues do not count 100% accurate. On SDH TCs the loopback options Access and Network are mixed up. The Network option is not available. However when the Access option is selected the loopback which is performed on the hardware works as a Network loopback. The performance counter Client Dropped Packets, ingress is not working. This counter should count packets which are dropped when the card is an overload condition. A Electrical Gigabit Ethernet Port with Autonegotiation = disabled, this will not work. Furthermore the ELS-1000S seems very slow, this leads sometimes to timeouts on the LCT. Other traffic is still working. The last VC of an LCAS enabled VCG cannot be deleted in the normal way, i.e. set the direction on both sides to "sink", then set the direction on both sides to "unconfigured" and delete the VC from both VCGs. For the last VC an error message is shown.

4 MINOR MANAGEMENT LIMITATIONS TD Ref 2199 EMDS Ref -Fault Description The PM Counter "Client Packets (1024 to MTU Octets)" has the wrong naming. It should be "Client Packets (1024 to 9212 Octets)". -The Network (Port) Loop for electrical FastEthernet and Gigabit-Ethernet does not work correct. For electical Fast-Ethernet ports the loop does only work if autonegotiation is administartive disabled. For electrical Gigabit-Ethernet ports the loop does not work. If in the window Ethernet connections an unused interface is selected, it may happen that the properties are not updated. In the dialog "Ethernet port configuration" "Ethernet characteristics" - "Monitoring" the values "Link Down Alarm" and "Link Down Cleared" are changed. It is not possible to configure a 100Base-TX SFP on the Fast Ethernet Ports. It is not possible to create a SDH cross connection between an ETO and ELS-1000S if the ETO is used as "Source card". When creating the cross connection with an ETO as 'source' card then the request will be rejected with the error message 'incompatible card types' Operational Workaround None.
