Brochure
Description: Date:
A two sided (duplex) folding brochure. March 29, 2014
Course/Instructor: Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign Adobe Illustrator Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Set up and align a two-sided, folded document Learn how to wrap text around an image Use paragraph styles in InDesign
Process:
I first started with a lot of brainstorming and paper folding. I then decided on the fold I wanted and set up the measurements in InDesign. For the front flaps I copied the same exact text and image, but I edited one image in Photoshop to make it red. I then used Illustrator to make my logo. I got the image from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty Soundtrack and kind of drew that mountain. Then I drew a hiker and subtracted it from the mountain using the layer pallet. I finished with the text and circle and then placed it in InDesign and updated the link a few times when I made changes. On the inside I first did all the body text and just tried laying it out. Then I changed the headers to a certain style and the body text to a certain style using paragraph styles. In Photoshop I then clipped the picture of Walter Mitty with the Lasso tools and various selection and refine edges tools. Then I placed it and made the text wrap around the image. I also added the other two photos in narrow frames and added the main title.

Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. Desaturate the selected portion of the image. Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image
Process:
I first started by brainstorming and coming up with various photo ideas and color schemes. I then went and took photos with my Canon Rebel T1i camera and decided I liked the soup one. And then I finalized my color scheme and decided one triadic. I did some sketching and more brainstorming and then I got on the computer. I edited my photo and then imported it onto my layout and started designing. Then I got some peer review and then some teacher feedback and worked on editing the title a lot more and then I printed.

Course/Instructor: Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Learn to manage Photoshop layers. Learn to blend images together smoothly, using masks. Use filters. Apply appropriate typography
Process:
So first I sketched a lot of ideas and then pulled some photos off of the internet and my computer and started playing around with my ideas. I created several different variations but none of them really worked out until this one. I first put in the British Flag as the background and the added the group picture of Coldplay. I used masks on that image and the different albums and used different blend options to make them all flow together. I then added the text with some tracking and another blend mode.

Course/Instructor: Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:
Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image. Use the basic tools of Illustrator.
Process:
I created all of these logos in Adobe Illustrator. On the first one I used some various shape tools and also created a clipping mask with the letters in the lens. The second one I played around with various fonts until I found the two I liked together. I then added some kerning to bottom word to make it align with the top. For the last logo I used the pen tool for most of it and the circle shape tool. And then after some peer review I decided to add the word photography with some kerning.

Web Page
Description: Date:
A web page designed to showcase a personally created logo. March 15, 2014
Course/Instructor: Program(s)/Tools:
Notepad Adobe Photoshop
Objectives:
Size and optimize an original logo as a .PNG for a web page. Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. Design a web page using HTML to display a logo and content. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic understanding of CSS. Identify hex colors for web design. Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file.
Process:
I made this web page using Notepad on my PC, and a little of Text Wrangler on a Mac. I have some previous experience with HTML and CSS so this was a good review for me. I first started with the HTML file and wrote in the basic code and all of the main text. Then I attached the pre-made CSS document to my HTML. I then went through and made some adjustments to make the CSS look good with my logo. I changed the colors many times and experimented with background textures but just decided to stick with solid colors. I also played with the border and learned how they make rounded corners. Also I changed some of the fonts and gave three different options in case a certain browser doesnt have one of the fonts.
Business Card
Description: Date:
Matching letterhead and business card designed using a personally created logo March 1, 2014
Course/Instructor: Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign Adobe Illustrator
Objectives:
Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Use the basic tools of Illustrator & InDesign
Process:
I first started with a bunch of sketching and changed my mind on a lot of things. I created the deer using Adobe Illustrator, I used the pen tool for the lines and the main body of them and I made the stroke have uneven width. I then used some shape tools for the rest of the deer and manipulated a few using the pen tool. I then brought in the text and created outlines so that I could manipulate the A and W to make it look like the legs of the deer. At the end of that I added some color. Then I went into InDesign to make the letterhead and business cards from my logos by bringing in the logos and creating a watermark with a similar deer design.
