Brochure
Course: Comm 130 Section 02 Instructor: Caryn Esplin Objectives: To create a duplex layout brochure Title: Skinny Mom Brochure Date: 3-29-14 Description: Tri-fold, duplex layout brochure for digital lifestyle brand
Program:Adobe Indesign and Adobe Illustrator

Process: I first divided my brochure into thirds. I designed my logo in Adobe Illustrator. I took the
photo of Skinny Mom in the blue tank top and flipped it around and used the quick selection tool to cut out the white background behind her. Then I used that photo and wrapped my text around it. For the photo on the back of the brochure, I changed the color of her sports bra which was originally purple, to match the magenta color I was using. I did this by adjusting the color balance and added more magenta and blue to it. As far as the color blocking I used in the brochure, I did this to make it look similar to workout pants, as if the pink strip is the waistband of the pants. I used arrows to give my titles a more interesting look and to draw your eye into my words. To create these arrows, I simply used the line tool. For my paragraphs, I created a consistent layout of line spacing.

Photodesign
Course: Comm 130 Section 02 Instructor: Caryn Esplin Objectives: To use an orginal photo and create a flier based on the picture and color scheme of
the photo.

Title: Brick Inspirational Flier Date: 2-8-14 Description: Demonstrate good photography and image editing skills. Incorporated color into a
poster layout with original photo.

Programs: Adobe Photoshop Process: First, I chose an analagous color scheme of violet, red and brick. Then I went and took
a picture of a portion of brick. I used the selective color tool to manipulate the color of the brick, to make it more red/purple than it originally was. I also sharpened some of the texture on the brick to make it pop.Once my photo was edited, I created a 8.5 by 11 page, where I inserted my edited image and and incorporated the color scheme by creating blocks that repeated the idea of bricks. I also incorporated my color scheme into my title or quote.

Course: Comm 130 Section 02 Instructor: Caryn Esplin Objectives: To learn how to use Illustrator and how to design logos that reflect the business. Title: Elsa Jensen Photography Date:2-22-14 Description: Three logo variations for my friends professional photography business. Programs: Adobe Illustrator and InDesign Process: I used the Illustrator program to create all of these logos. For the first logo, I used the ellipse tool
and filled it in with blue. I then put white text on top of it to create contrast and negative space. I then took the pen tool and made it so the script continued until the edges of the circle. I used a different typography for the word photography and used the concept of tracking to create greater space and contrast. For the second logo,

I used the line segment and pen tool to create these angular shapes to create a sort of frame. For the third logo I used the ellipse tool to make the three small circles.

Web Page
Course: Comm 130 Section 02 Instructor: Caryn Esplin Objectives: To learn how to write my own HTML code and make a personalized CSS for my website. Title: CA Web Design Web Page Date: 3-15-14 Description: Website created using basic HTML and CSS Programs: W3C Validator, TextWrangler Process: I created this webpage using only TextWrangler. Previously, I had no experience in HTML or CSS, but
for this project I learned how to write my own HTML code and make a personalized CSS. I used the W3C Validator to make sure I had no errors in my coding. After I came up with my content and inserted my logo image, I attached a pre-made CSS document to my HTML. I then changed things in my CSS included the colors and fonts. To obtain the correct colors, I used the eyedropper tool in Photoshop to extract the exact colors I used in my logo. I then found the hex color number and inserted this into my CSS. I changed my fonts to Palatino Type and came up with a backup font just in case a different computer couldnt find that particular font I used. I centered my image on the web page because I thought it was more aesthetically pleasing.

Stationery
Course: Comm 130 Section 02 Instructor: Caryn Esplin Objectives: Title: CA Web Design Business Stationery Date: 3-1-14 Description: I made stationery that matched my business cards, for consistent branding. Programs: Adobe InDesign and Illustrator Process: I copied and pasted an original logo I made onto another Illustrator document to create my stationery.
I placed the logo on the top left corner leaving at least .5 from the edges. To create repetition, I also placed the circle logo on the right corner of the stationary. I enlarged it and changed the opacity to 15%. The reason why I kept the transparency on the high-end is because the color I chose was already really light.

Business Card
Course: Comm 130 Section 02 Instructor: Caryn Esplin Objectives: Title: CA Web Design business card Date: 3-1-14 Description: A business card to promote CA Web Design Programs: Adobe Illustrator and InDesign Process: I used Illustrator to create my logo for CA Web Design with the simple shape tools. I used the ellipse
tool to create my circle for my logo and then I used brackets to create a backdrop. To enlarge these brackets, I created a text box and then I created an outline for them so I could manipulate them and make them bigger. I also used the blob brush to fill in the color. I used the rectangle tool to smooth out the edges. Once I got my logo created, I placed this Illustrator document into InDesign. For the back of the business card, I tried to create repetition by placing the information inside brackets. I also used the same circle logo on the back to create consistency.

Montage
Course: Comm 130 Section 02 Instructor: Caryn Esplin Objectives: To learn how to mask an image and blend its pixels into another picture to create a montage. Title: Paris is Always a Good Idea Aubrey Hepburn Montage Date: 2-15-14 Description: An inspirational montage made by the blending of two or more images, with the use of typography. Programs: Adobe Photoshop Process: I cropped the image of Paris to an 8.5 by 11I then used my stamp tool to take the background of my Paris
image and repeat it at the top, so I could move the Eiffel Tower down. I then selected the image of Audrey Hepburn and put a mask on it.With black paint and a 100% opacity, soft-edged brush, I painted away the hard image edges and got rid of the text that was originally underneath her image. With a larger black brush at 30% opacity and 30% flow, I blended the image into the background, so it looks like she is part of the scene and blended in the edges of the sky since I used the stamp tool to duplicate it. I then used two separate text boxes with two different fonts and place them on my image.. I then selected the entire layer and used colorization and selected the pre-set sepia color. This gave my poster an old feel to it to match my subject matter.

Event Ad
Course: Comm 130 Section 02 Instructor: Caryn Esplin Objectives: To learn how to create an event ad flier Title: Sallys Flowers Valentines Fundraiser Date: 2-1-14 Description: A color full-bleed ad using only Microsoft and a scanner. Programs: Microsoft Word, Espon Scanner and PDF2JPG.net (PDF converter) Process: I used an image from a magazine, scanned it, and then placed it on my flier. I used the eyedropper
tool to use to match the same exact colors on the image. I outlined some of my boxes and circles in black and outlined the title in red. I created white lines to give your eye a break from the pink and red colors. I created the two circles to create repetition and I adjusted their transparency to 50%. I created a type of watermark by adjusting the heart to 90% transparency.

Flier
Course: Comm 130 Section 02 Instructor: Caryn Esplin Objectives: To learn how to use Photoshop and make a good layout for a flier. Title: Graduate Leadership Conference Date:1-25-14 Description: Black and white flier to promote a graduate leadership conference. Programs:
