WORK EXPERIENCE
I have worked at Sunyani regional hospital , Ghana as a registered nurse from
November,2003 to July 2007. I had my internship at Ruian people`s hospital (whenzhou
third affiliated hospital ) where i had a lot of practical experience . The experience i had
from the internship had propel me to persue my post graduate course on orthopedics.
I also teach kids english at kid castle educational complex ,china (Wenzhou-pingyang
branch) as a form of humanitarian assistant to the community from 2008 to 2013. I
participated in this program whiles i was studying my MBBS course in Wenzhou medical
college, china.

EXTRAURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I have won several award on the field of sport including three gold,a bronze and a silver
medals at Wenzhou medical college sport festival from 2007 to 2013.
I have also been a core member of the school`s football team of which we won several
medals for the college.

Study and Career Goals

My goal to part-take in orthopedic education is to prepare me to be competent
and ethical practitioner of orthopedic surgery. To fulfill this goal, i have to;
A. Study in the entire field of orthopedic surgery, including in-patient and outpatient
diagnosis and care as well as operative and non-operative management and rehabilitation.
B. Seek the opportunities to develop, through experience, the necessary cognitive,
technical,interpersonal, teaching, and research skills.
C. Acquire the opportunity to create new knowledge and to become skilled in the critical
evaluation of information and technology.
D. Study in the recognition and management of basic medical and surgical problems.
I would like to acquire the modern techniques in treating patient and also lear the
extraordinary skills possessed by the surgeons in the institution.
At the end of my training i would like to be a top class student with personal
repressibilities of giving quality care to my patients.

Objectives

Implementation and Realization

During three years of residency training at the University , you will study the
prevention of musculoskeletal diseases, disorders, and injuries and their
treatment by medical, surgical, and physical methods.
Through participation in clinical and didactic activities i will develop the
knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to formulate principles and assess,
plan, and initiate treatment of adult orthopedic problems, including joint
reconstruction; pediatric orthopedic problems, including pediatric trauma;
trauma, including multi-system trauma; surgery of the spine, including disk
surgery, spinal trauma, and spinal deformities; hand surgery; foot surgery in
adults and children; athletic injuries, including arthroscopy, metastatic
disease; and orthopedic rehabilitation, including amputations and postamputation care.
I will participate in the pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative care
of patients with these orthopedic conditions. In addition, i will learn
orthopedic oncology, rehabilitation of neurological injury and disease, spinal
cord injury rehabilitation, orthotics and prosthetics, and the ethics of medical
practice.

Duty Hours
Duty hours are defined as all clinical and academic activities related to the residency
program,i.e., patient care (inpatient and outpatient) administrative duties related to patient
care, the provision for transfer of patient care, time spent in-house during call activities,
and scheduled academic activities, such as conferences. Duty hours do not include
reading and preparation time spent away from the duty site.

First year
Clinical Diagnosis Management:
The resident performs and documents a history and physical exam. Performs differential
diagnosis. Develops and documents pre- and post-op care treatment plans. Develops and
documents fluid and electrolyte therapy. Orders transfusions of blood and blood products.
Orders pain management therapy. Obtains and documents informed consent. Dictates
operative notes. Dictates discharge summaries. Orders diagnostic test(s). Orders
medications. Orders appropriate consults. Orders appropriate radiological studies.
Clinical Non-Invasive Management:
The resident performs digital rectal exam. Orders and Interprets Basic EKG findings.
Performs oral/nasal/tracheal intubation*. Uses portable image intensifier* for diagnosis
and treatment. Applies casts and splints*. Reduces fractures and dislocations*. Interprets
radiographs*.
Clinical Invasive (Operative Management):
The resident performs electrocautery. Performs wound closure (suture). Performs wound
care. Performs wound irrigation and debridement. Acts as first assistant. Excises skin
lesion(s). Repairs simple lacerations. Performs needle biopsies*. Performs incision and
drainage (I&D)*. Obtains and applies split measurement of compartment pressure*.
