Thomas Wozencraft Professor Jerome McKeever English 101H 29 January 2014 Tom Wozencraft: The Soundtrack of My Life Hello, my name is Tom. Today I would like to envelop you into the world I like to call my life. As all of us walk through our lives from day to day we all view the world a little differently. Each and every one of us differ in many ways, the way we view our universe, each other, and the way we live. We all seek and find interest in different aspects of life and we all take this knowledge that we learn differently while finding different meaning to the same information. Through each of our lives we take what man has learned and developed for thousands of years and sculpt our own understanding of our universe as well as our own faith to what everything means to us. With this considered, I am going to share what I have observed in what I call life. Each of us discover representations of ourselves, whether they be objects, words or ideas that define some of what we believe and what we have become. Music has changed and defined cultures around the world since the beginning of language itself. Many believe music even derives from before our ability to communicate verbally with each other. To many of us music is an incredibly accurate display of emotion or of the ideas we wish to convey. I am a knowledge seeking individual who strives to gain my own understanding of the universe we live in and apply it to the way I live, love, and dream as represented in some of my most favorite songs Parting by Mitis, Thunder by Boys Like Girls, and Bombs Away by B.O.B.

The emotion that I feel in the song Parting by Mitis represents me and my sense of wonder. In this world our society binds us and imprisons us by its rules, its restrictions, its ethics and beliefs that it forces upon us, its unfair and damning social and economic structures that bind us to the lives we are born into, that differentiate us from each other, that turn our eyes away from the beauty, depth, wonder, and mystery that is our universe, that is life. The music in this song awakens an open state of mind in me. Through my life I have found it easy to grow up, to forget the beauty of the world seen through the untroubled eyes of my younger ignorant self. This song reminds me to step back and think, to question what society tells us not to. It reminds me to forget the pain and anxiety. To forget the walls our society has built for us. To feed the part of me that I believe is enlightened, not ignorant but able to see the world as it is meant to be seen, beyond the walls that imprison us into this society. Ignorance of the troubles and terrors of our world do not in my eyes make one experience just bliss, but give one the ability to see the world in a different manner, through different eyes. As we have always been told sometimes to discover an answer or to see the truth we must think outside the box, well I strive to think outside of the walls that society imprisons me in and redefine my definition and understanding of life. Another incredibly important aspect of my life can be represented through the lyrics in the song Thunder by Boys Like Girls. As I have learned to love and experienced different love with different people. Each time no matter how it may differ from the last, one thing remains the same, I fall fast and hard for someone. Since I can remember, my life, my emotions, my dreams, and down to every beat my heart has ever made, I have always been driven by my lust for love. The rush that courses through my body, every living part of my being is unlike anything

I have ever experience. A fire that derives from deep within courses through my veins, and an explosion of thoughts and emotions that feel as though they spread through my head like a billion lightning storms make up what I call love. Love has always been a self-defining emotion for me, an emotion that I live for. The lyrics in this song reflect the depth of my love. The lyrics Your eyes are the brightest of all the colors represent much of the mystery and wonder I feel when looking into the eyes of the women I love. As faith in religion is something that was forced upon me I have always been negligent to acknowledge its possible existence, however looking into the eyes of someone I love is the only moment I see something beyond the flesh and bone that is each and every one of us. I see something so beautiful it cannot be described other that the most beautiful things I have ever seen the brightest of all the colors.

Lastly the song Bombs Away by B.O.B represents how I feel about time as well as truth. When I wake up I get this feeling that I cant wait up because time is ticking, bombs away. Even though I am young and I have what many say a long life ahead of me I cannot help but feel every day, every hour, every second escape me. I am constantly reminded of the ticking clock thats numbers hang a noose around my neck. The condemning fate that is our lives. We live for many reasons, we change this world in many different ways and give our life value, but in the end, to us, we die. This song also gives light to truth, truth differs between each of us and there are many versions of truth, not just right and wrong. These are some of

the core values that define me and my understanding of our society. This song represents my knowledge of right and wrong and how I decipher my actions. These songs represent the trillions upon trillions of firing neurons that are my thoughts and that are me. Every second like lightning neurons fire information at each other. This happens at a rate so high that all of the observable starts in our known universe cannot add to compare the quantity. These views and ideas are what it all becomes. I value love above all, love defines the meaning of my life. It is what I chase after and why I attempt to battle this world. I feel as though life escapes me. I strive to make the most out of the time that I have in this world and until satisfied with the things Ive done and the benefit I have brought to the people I love I will not feel as though my life is complete. I ever feel the weight of time bare down on me. And with the beauty that is our universe I contemplate the ideas of others and of my own. I constantly think of what this world and our society could be. How beautiful each and every one of us is. These songs Parting by Mitis, Thunder by Boys Like Girls, and Bombs Away by B.O.B represent my beliefs and emotions, and show you a fraction of who I am.
