Central Luzon bloc seeks probe of Angat Dam and Dyke rehabilitation status
Central Luzon lawmakers have called on the House Committee on Public Works and Highways to investigate the status of the Angat Dam Rehabilitation Pro ect to e!"edite its im"lementation and ensure safety and reliability of the dam and dyke from geological and hydro#meteorological hazards$ %hrough House Resolution &'() the lawmakers led by Re"$ Linabelle Ruth *illarica +'th District) ,ulacan-) "resident of the Central Luzon ,loc) sought the investigation of the status of the "ro ect otherwise known as the Angat Dam and Dyke .trengthening Pro ect +ADD.P-$ %he Resolution cited the /ational 0conomic Develo"ment Authority +/0DAa""roved the ADD.P on .e"tember ') 1231 and the amount of P3$&1( billion for its im"lementation$ 4%he ADD.P was already a""roved by /0DA$ %o date) however) the Angat dam and dyke have yet to be rehabilitated)5 said *illarica$ %he Angat dam and dyke) which are located in /orzagaray) ,ulacan) were constructed by the /ational Power Cor"oration +/PC- in the early 36(2s as a multi# "ur"ose facility for domestic water su""ly) irrigation) "ower and flood control$ %he Phili""ine 7nstitute of *olcanology and .eismology +Philvolcs- "reviously warned that the West *alley 8ault +W*8-) which runs through the Central 9etro 9anila Area) is "otentially active) and that a s"lay or local fault runs 122 meters east of the Angat 9ain Dyke and any movement of the W*8 may affect the local fault$ *illarica said after the Phivolcs announcement) the 9etro"olitan Water Works .ewerage .ystem +9W..-) Power .ector Assets and Liabilities 9anagement Cor"oration +P.AL9-) the /PC) /ational 7rrigation Administration +/7A-) Philvolcs) Phili""ine Atmos"heric) :eo"hysical and Astronomical .ervices Administration +PA:A.A-) ;ffice of Civil Defense +;CD- and the "rovince of ,ulacan entered into a 9emorandum of Agreement in ;ctober 1233 to identify) "rioritize and im"lement a "rogram and "ro ect for the safety and integrity of the Angat Dam in the event of an earth<uake that may occur in the future$ *illarica) also chair"erson of the House committee on women and gender e<uality) said likewise) a .afety .tudy was conducted and it was recommended that the Angat Dam and Dyke must be strengthened$
