Oil on Canvas 2002 $175 I drew a sketch of this while sitting on the front steps of someones house. The locals saw me drawing, stopped and took a fresh look at the view. They seemed to now see it in a different way - even though theyd probably looked at it a thousand times before. I made the oil painting from the sketch after I got home.

Its from very early in her career before she became such a force in ,ollywood, but you can see the gleam in her eye of someone who means business. I had -ust seen 1*rida2, the film about *rida 0ahlo produced by (and starring) "alma ,ayek. "he had wanted to film the story for years but couldnt get any backing so she put it all together herself with the help of friends and fellow actors. 'e could all take a lesson in drive from her. I then got the idea to paint ,epburn, ,yek and a few other women who took on the media industry and came out on top ( on their own terms. 3prah is an obvious choice ( shes created a veritable empire. 4adonna has fashioned a career almost by willing it to happen. I must say Im not a big fan of her music but I must admit that she is very focused. !gain, shes provided a lesson for all of us in how to set and achieve goals. I also painted 5odi *oster but I didnt like how it came out, so shes not here ( maybe Ill try her again because shes way cool.

Oil on !ood 1 2002 $70 I drew a sketch of this while watching a flamenco show in a tablao (a flamenco club) in 4adrid. It was dark and I had to work fast because I didnt know how long the song would last. I was able to finish it and I worked it up into an oil painting later.
