Homeschooling What are the advantages and disadvantages connected to home schooling? Sierra, Christian Date March 10, 2014 Students will: Describe advantages and disadvantages connected to homeschooling Observation of group work Observe participation in debate Observe them discussing key points learned at the end and joining discussions Poker chips Articles Coin Whiteboard Whiteboard Marker Introduce topic and learning objectives Ask class what they think about home schooling, pros & cons Write original ideas onto board (maybe) Split into two groups facing eachother (one side advantages, one side disadvantages) Flip a coin to decide and let one team choose if they will be advantages or disadvantages inform that they are going to have to debate for the topic they choose after reading. Hand out resources informing of advantages and disadvantages to each side Give time to scan articles (while students reading hand out 1 poker chip to each player) Each student must contribute a key point across to the other side that they learnt from their articles. (every team member has to contribute by turning in their chip) Alternate back and forth until everyone has commented Teacher will write down key points onto chart on whiteboard Meet with a member of opposite team (directly across from one another) and discuss one thing they learnt about home schooling today.
