.02 Cumulative Assessment Learning Outcomes: Music CD Label Creation: A Spotlight on Design Elements and Photo Manipulation: For this assessment you will a create an original music album for an original artist whom you create their genre and persona. The album will include the following plan sheet and guidelines, as well rubric that outline the learning expectations for this activity. You may choose to work independently or with one partner. If you work together, remember you must collaborate on all aspects of the album cover. You will utilize skills from NCSCOS 1.01-2.01 including topics on typography use, design elements, Publisher features as well as image manipulation. Music Album Cover Data Sheet Directions: In preparation for your Album Cover, answer the following questions about your band/music group/individual artist. Use the answers to help you make sure all required elements are on your Album cover. REMEMBER IT MUST ALL BE ORIGINAL!! 1. What is the name of your band/artist?

2. What kind of music does your band/artist play?

3. What is the name of this album?

4. When you listen to your band/artist, what colors come to mind?

5. Name an animal that your band/artist could use as a symbol, and explain why that animal fits your band.

6. What season of the year (autumn, winter, spring, summer) most reminds you of your band/artist?

7. What age group would like to listen to your band/artist?

8. List the names of AT LEAST eight songs that are on this Albums: 1. 5. 2. 3. 4. 6. 7. 8.

Music Album Directions and Scoring Guide Be Creative! Use Font, Paragraph or Style Group Commands by emphasizing correct use of Typography design including: Serif, San Serif, Ornamental, Decorative, Script, Mono space, Proportional, and proper uses of spacing through leading, kerning and tracking to create your Album Cover. Include at least each of the different design effects throughout your design. Use consistency but try not to duplicate too much. Incorporate the Elements of Design such as alignment, balance, consistency, contrast, proximity, and whitespace appropriately. Include color and texture to enhance as well. Examples include(but not limited to): Font styles (unlimited choice Style Headings- ( Hint: good for title) combinations) Bullets/Alignment/Indention Font Sizes Illustrations Font Effects in the Font Dialog box Proper Use of Rule of Thirds Paragraph & Line Spacing- Vertical, Asymmetric and Symmetric Balances Horizontal, Expanded, Condensed, etc. Color Matching Highlight/Fill Effects Change Case Indention Finally, incorporate image manipulation to determine the proper placement and effects that the images will have on your cover. Use features from any of the photo software applications used including but not limited to : Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Art Weaver, Pixlr, GIMP, Inkscape or Paint. Grading will based on your ability to creatively design your cover using the feature commands. You must create the front cover, inside, and back cover for a CD. Your CD cover will be for a fictitious artist or band. In order to help you know what kind of CD cover to make, please complete the attached CD cover data sheet. Remember, CDs are 5 x 5 squares. Youll need 4 of these, one that represents the front cover, 2 for inside art, and one for back cover.
