Logging in
When you start NEMO Analyzer, the Maritech Login Form window opens as below:

Enter the name of the SQL server. The best way to find which server Navision is using is to open Database Information in Navision and copy the "Server name" text from there into "Server name" here.

Next, select the name of the database and the company to connect to from the drop-down lists.

NEMO Analyzer Course | www.nemo.is

1. Licence Key
If NEMO Analyzer cannot find a valid licence for the company when it is opened, the Licence Key window will open:

If you do not have a key, you can click the "Apply for a Demo key" button, which will open your default post application containing all the necessary information. Send the e-mail unchanged and wait a short while for Maritech to send the licence key. Once you have received the key, paste the whole key by pressing Ctrl-V while the caret is in the first input box.

The first person to install the system within a company must have SQL server system administrator permissions.

2. Main Menu
The main menu is divided into two sections: The ribbon

Each available function is shown here. New tabs will be added to the ribbon as new windows are opened.

Application Menu

can also be found here. It contains less frequently used functions, such

as Exit, and shortcuts which are always available, allowing you to change the language, connect to another NAV company or obtain a list of open windows.

Sidebar

This contains a list of all standard analyses, plug-ins, favourites, output from Reporting Services (SSRS) and saved views on OLAP cubes.

To save space, right click on a tab label and select "Minimise the ribbon".

2.1.1 Change saved views and layout changes Use this option to change the names of save views or to delete them. The OLAP window allows you to change the name of the server to connect to should anything have been moved. "Edit Layouts" allows you to add saved layouts to Favourites or remove them and change privacy settings. To remove a line, click on the minus sign on the control bar at the bottom of the window.

If you cant select the minus sign, then you are in Edit mode. Press Esc to exit Edit mode.

When this window is closed, the system reloads all lists. This means that if you know that a colleague has added a view to a OLAP cube, you only need open "Edit OLAP Views" then close it again. The system will load the new view.

Start of the calendar year

2.1.2.1 URL of Reporting Services NEMO Analyzer needs to know the URL of the Reporting Services web service in order to be able to load reports from Reporting Services. This string always ends with ReportService2005.asmx, which is the name of the web service, while the first part changes according to the company. 2.1.2.2 Logo to print Use this to choose the company logo to print as the header on all reports. For best results, use a picture that is not more than 50 pixels high. 2.1.2.3 Start of the calendar year If the accounting year is not the same as the calendar year, you can have the system use the accounting year when selecting period shortcuts in the reports that have that functionality. The action of the YTD button and other buttons used to select the time period will then change. 2.1.2.4 Access controls NEMO Analyzer uses Windows Authentication for access control, so this tab will be enabled only if the Domain Controller can be found.

Application menu

Several functions are available on this menu. 2.3.1 Geocode customers This functionality relates customers addresses with GPS co-ordinates. This is done by sending a request to Googles Geocoding service for the latitude and longitude of the addresses. When this function starts, all companies that do not have GPS co-ordinates are selected automatically. The simplest approach is to select "Run Geocoding for all selected rows" and wait for the function to finish. This may take some time, so it is a good idea to initiate this function one evening and allow it to run overnight. When it has finished, click "Save and Close" and it will then be possible to select "Customer Overview" under "Geo Analysis". 2.3.2 Enter new licence key This option allows you to enter a new licence key or see the scope of a key. 2.3.3 Plug-in Manager NEMO Analyzer is a remarkably open and flexible system. A key part of this flexibility is the capability to easily add new independent modules to the system. These modules are often created around users specially customised Navision installations, although this is only one scenario. It is also possible to retrieve data from other systems, web services, data portals and other sources. The "Plug-in Manager" plays a vital role in this context. Use it to load a module into the environment and decide where the new option will be placed on the Sidebar, then click on "Register".

3. Analyses
At the time of writing, NEMO Analyzer includes 14 analyses that operate directly on NAV data. That is, they query the SQL tables extensively then display the data either in a treeview control, a pivot grid or in a world view (Google Earth). The OLAP browser is then used to display data from the Microsoft Analysis Server (SSAS), and as the OLAP cubes are actually multi-dimensional, the pivot grid is used. Reports from Reporting Services are specially formatted, so they can be tables, charts or other things, and the Report Viewer is used to examine them.
The 14 analyses that operate directly on live data.

3.1

The Analysis ribbon in general

When a new analysis is opened in NEMO Analyzer, the ribbon changes and at least two new tabs are added, sometimes more. Each tab contains a varying range of options. The options available for all analyses are: Data Export to Excel, PDF and others; and printing.

If you need to export data to Excel for further work, use the CSV (comma-separated values) file format.

3.1.1 Printing When you select Print, the Print Preview dialog will open. It shows a range of options which change according to what sort of control is being printed and whether or not there are many visible controls (e.g. pivot grids and charts).

NEMO Analyzer Quick Guide | www.nemo.is

3.2

Treeview control

A treeview control is used in a single analysis, a G/L Analysis, because it provides a very logical presentation for the chart of accounts. This control places all the G/L accounts in a tree according to how they are classified in Navision. Each classification is a "leaf" in the tree. This control adds a number of functions to the ribbon. 3.2.1 Treeview functions ribbon
Show figures in millions or thousands Select budget

Select period Collapse/expand all leaves in the tree Show keys with 0 value Select previous period

Filters for global dimensions 1/2

Select comparative account

3.2.2 Financial analysis This analysis is somewhat out of the ordinary in this system because of the special treatment applied to its layout and preset graphical presentation. This is only possible by restricting flexibility, which is considerable in the pivot tables. However, a financial cube is available which is naturally viewed in the pivot table. There is no option to save setups or layout changes for the simple reason that this analysis does not provide the option to alter the layout. All G/L accounts are inserted into the tree in two parts: P&L and balance sheet. The third tab contains key performance indicators (KPIs). Each line selected in the tree is shown in graphical form below as a pie chart and/or a bar chart. When viewing the P&L account, the pie chart shows the distribution of the sub-accounts, while the bar chart compares all the visible totals: Total for the period (net change), budget total and total for the previous period. When viewing the balance sheet, both charts show the distribuition of sub-keys.
To graphically compare several accounts, hold down the Ctrl key and select additional accounts.

You can also click on a slice in the pie chart to select that account. Both the tree and the pie chart will be updated.

NEMO Analyzer Course | www.nemo.is

10

3.2.3 Comparison account If a comparison account is selected, then the system calculates the proportion of the total amounts of all accounts compared to the selected account. In this example, the Revenue account is selected as the comparison account and that line is green. The system also attempts to provide information about the standing of accounts by showing numbers in red where either income is below budget / previous period or costs are above.

3.2.4 Drill down Obtain more detailed information about what underlies each figure by double-clicking on the number. The Drill down window will open, showing all the G/L transactions that contribute to the respective figure. The results can be grouped by account or date, totals can be obtained for accounts or periods and irrelevant data can be filtered out.

3.2.5 KPIs The third and final part of the financial analysis covers KPIs. Select the correct account from the KPI ribbon and calculations begin automatically.

3.3

Pivot tables

Pivot tables are used to extract data from the database. Examples of their use include producing financial statements from the accounts, comparing data, etc. They are called pivot tables because they allow for arranging rows and columns based on the data to provide a different view of the basic data. Pivot tables are used frequently in NEMO Analyzer, and considerable effort has been made in making them accessible, user friendly and simple to set-up and share, with a graphical representation. 3.3.1 Pivot table functions ribbon
Pivot table settings Add (calculated) column

Clear pivot table

Select period Show All data

3.3.2 Pivot table areas The principal areas of a pivot table can be clearly seen in an empty table. They are the Filter Area, the Column Area, the Row Area and the Data Area, as can be seen in the figure. There are two data areas because they are shown in the white region although they are specified in the blue region. Right click in a data field to see this clearly. A wide range of options is displayed for the specification region, while only sorting options are available in the display region. 3.3.3 Customize Pivot table This function opens a small window on the right of the pivot table which displays all the fields that are not displayed and shows which fields are in which area. When a pivot table is connected to an OLAP cube, these fields are grouped in measures and dimensions . Measures may only be placed in the data area, while dimensions may be placed in any area.
To use the same field more than once, hold the Ctrl key down while you move the field from the field list.

NEMO Analyzer Course | www.nemo.is

12

You can drag fields from the field list to the respective area of the pivot table, either over the name of an area on the list or over the area in the pivot table.

3.3.4 Field settings Right clicking on a field allows you to change several settings.

3.3.4.1 Summary display type This setting allows you to show figures as a proportion of a column or line, or to show the deviation between dimensions/columns as figures or percentages. 3.3.4.2 Grouping Absolute variation This setting allows the pivot table to form groups that introduce new dimensions. This is used to group dates into a year, month, etc. It can also be used on text fields to create groups in alphabetical order, etc. 3.3.4.3 Conditional formatting This window informs the pivot table how to format numbers and cells. It is used to show negative numbers in a different colour, too little yield in a certain colour, and so on. The foreground (ForeColor) and background (BackColor) colours can be changed, as can the font, etc. Note that there is also a Conditional Format window which works for the whole pivot table on the Grid Options ribbon.

13

NEMO Analyzer Quick Guide | www.nemo.is

3.3.4.4 Properties This window displays a list of all the field properties you can change. The most important are: 3.3.4.4.1 CellFormat This is used to format number fields and specify the number of digits after the decimal point, show currency symbols, and so on. The simplest entries are Nx (number), Cx (currency) and Px (percentage), where x indicates the number of decimals. N2 would mean a normal number with two decimal places. 3.3.4.4.2 RunningTotal This property allows you to change how numbers are totalled in a dimension. If RunningTotal is set to True, then a running total is used from one dimension to the next and the dimensions are not zeroed between. This is the default setting. 3.3.4.4.3 TopValueCount This shows the top value of a dimension, which is used, for example, in Top X reports in NEMO Analyzer. TopValueShowOthers and TopValueType are used with this property to display the total of the remainder. 3.3.4.4.4 KPIGraphic This option allows you to change the number values in KPI symbol figures. They include numbers from -1 to +1, so it is a good idea to use a calculated field to create these numbers using a formula. This also works well for percentages. 3.3.5 Save layout changes and settings A tab labelled Layouts is added to all ribbons where pivot tables are used. This allows you to save settings such as filters and sorting, and save all changes to the layout of pivot tables made by users. Retrieve them later or add them to your Favourites area in the sidebar. You can also transfer these changes in a file for use elsewhere. 3.3.6 Grid options ribbon This window allows you to edit common properties of the pivot table.
Close all Lines between fields Where to show totals

Open all dimensions

Conditional format for the whole data area

Show/hide various areas and fields

Compact dimensions in the line area in a tree

NEMO Analyzer Course | www.nemo.is

14

3.3.7 Add column When you click this button, a window will be displayed which allows you to specify the column, its name and type. You can also select the type of total, how it will be displayed and how many decimal places it will have.

When you click OK, the Expression editor will be displayed where you can select different functions to use, as well as any existing fields. The functions are grouped together according to their type, and help text will be displayed in the empty cell in the bottom right corner when a function is selected. You can create long, complex expressions, use several expressions together on one line, etc.

3.3.8 Hyperlinks Blue, underlined text in a dimension is a link, generally into Navision, although if the text is an e-mail address, the default e-mail program will be opened. If Navision is installed on the computer, the link will open the respective card or list with the correct value selected.
