Dr. Hayes Wicker, Senior Pastor

This is the time of year when the eyes of the sports world turn to Augusta and the Masters Golf Tournament. Though Bobby Jones developed the course, he commented about its greatest player, Jack Nicklaus, He plays a game with which I am not familiar. The Golden Bear won the first of his 18 major championships in 1962 when he was 22 and the last, the 1986 Masters, when he was 46. He had an astonishing 19 second-place finishes in majors. In 1998, at age 58 and in need of reconstructive hip surgery, he made the Sunday turn in August only two strokes off of the lead. While OMeara won, Nicklaus still drove the ball 330 yards on the 9th hole! Hes the best ever. One of Nicklaus great secrets that we as Christians must remember is that we must continually grow and learn. At 40, Jack was taking short-game lessons and said: I probably have forgotten more about golf than I will ever remember; you remember some of the things that you thought you would never forget. During this special Easter season, the Master, the Lord Jesus Christ, says to all of us, Remind them of these things (2 Timothy 2:14). We remember the Masters Triumphal Entry on Palm Sunday and how quickly the crowd turned on Him. We remember His sufferings on Good Friday with scourging and the cross. Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in the gospel (2 Timothy 2:8). Jesus has never had trouble wearing the mantle or the crown of being number one, and only number one, in the world. He has the only record of being perfect in holiness. He did not have to reinvent Himself, but only reveal Himself to us. Golf tournaments dont even come close to the glory of Heaven or even Gods work in the local church. He is the Son of God, The Lord and Master. We continue to remember Gods blessings, as the Master uses us, His servants. As I indicated in an email blast at the beginning of the week, I rejoice to tell you that we received $1,549,367 in cash toward our goal, leaving a debt balance of $2,176,849. Our folks have pledged beyond that offering the amount of $2,226,146. With the offering and when pledges are fulfilled, we will have enough money to eradicate our debt. As you may know, two entire chapters in 2 Corinthians are devoted to the need of the Greek church to finish the work by their wealth of generosity (2 Corinthians 8:11 2). Five hundred and forty family units made commitments to give regularly, growing in faith and obedience, to enable us to cross the finish line. If you have not yet made a commitment or given, you are still vitally needed. Some have already told us, Lets pay this off! This will happen if we fulfill our pledges early; remember that were still in process. I praise the Lord for willing gifts and bountiful seed-sowing (2 Corinthians 9:5, 6). We are being trained for the kingdom of heaven and are grateful for the Master of the house who brings out of His treasure what is new and what is old (Matthew 13:52).
